GMA Network on 1st Integrity Summit: Accountability and Transparency

GMA NEWS:

If corruption is to be eliminated in the private sector, executives need to take charge in espousing business integrity and accountability, business executives said Wednesday.

During the 1st Integrity Summit organized by the private sector, business leaders shared the best practices they employ in their respective firms to uphold ethical conduct within their organization.

“The top executives of GMA Network took the initiative to implement [ethical practices] within the company," shared Mike Enriquez, senior vice-president for radio of GMA Network Inc., in his speech.

Enriquez said that the company's board strongly advocates accountability, transparency and integrity, from which the News and Public Affairs division of the network modeled its public service thrust.

Accountability, transparency

“Our CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon is not treated as an emperor or a king. He is accountable to the board. And we are obligated by our bosses to walk the talk," Enriquez added.

As part of its desire to promote integrity within the network, the company was the first TV network to create and publish its own ethics manual, place suggestion boxes all over the facility, regularly update its shareholders on its financial performance, and create a programming committee which constantly evaluates program proposals, Enriquez said.

The veteran newsman said that efforts to promote and practice integrity have paid dividends for the company, especially in terms of increasing its bottom line. “The more people believe [in] us, the more they perceive us to have integrity, the more they watch our programs," he said

The challenge, Enriquez added, is to promote the same level of integrity across the business sector. “Trustworthiness is the essence of a good broadcast entity, but it is also the essence of good business," he said. “Having a universally accepted standard [on integrity] is a must for the business community."

Private sector Integrity Pledge

The Integrity Summit is an effort by the Makati Business Club and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, which seeks to stamp out corruption, not only in government but in the private sector as well, in line with President Benigno Aquino III's thrust toward eliminating corruption in government.

Currently, about 700 companies from across all industries have signed the Integrity Pledge, along with 13 Cabinet secretaries which include Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas II, among others.

JC Tiuseco: Not ready for a sexy pose

MST:

Considering his sexy physique, JC Tiuseco admits he’s not ready at this point to do a pictorial with just his underwear on.

“That’s true,” he says. “For one, my folks won’t approve of it. They always tell me of their disagreement to such thought. For them, being topless and wearing shorts, like what I do in my afternoon soap Sisid is already enough. Personally, it’s also my choice not to appear in such type of photo shoot.”

Many male showbiz wannabes these days are aggressive to flaunt their sexiness on screen just to create waves especially if it’s in an independent movie which has a huge chance to be screened internationally.

“I know! Indie films are the ‘in’ thing nowadays. Especially if it’s critically-acclaimed, it gets the chance to compete in prestigious film festivals abroad. Despite that come-on, my stand remains the same.

“But it doesn’t mean that I don’t entertain the thought. I’m not totally closing my doors to the possibility. Who knows in the future, right? I’m just 23 anyway. There’s still a lot of time to prepare for that, if ever.”

Speaking of Sisid, some quarters are curious if he didn’t develop a crush on his co-star Jackie Rice in the course of their tapings especially since they figured into numerous kissing scenes in their top-rating afternoon drama.

“Honestly, no! Jackie is a lovely gal, no doubt. Apart from her physical attributes, she’s simple, kind and nice as well. Any guy will fall for her.

“But I have high respect for the lass. Her non-showbiz boyfriend visits the set regularly. He became friends with almost everyone. With regard to our kissing scenes, we’re just doing what the role requires us to. Definitely, there’s no malice involved.” Asked who among our local female stars he admires, the appealing lad confesses:

“I find Heart (Evangelista) pretty. Solenn (Heussaff) is also attractive. Then, there’s Rhian (Ramos) whose smartness I’m hats-off to.”

His love life is obviously quiet these days.

“It’s because there’s none! Ha-ha-ha! Whether you believe it or not, I don’t have a girlfriend at present. I’m focused with my career. That can wait.”

Meanwhile, switching home studios is rampant among contemporary stars. It’s good he stays loyal to GMA.

“I don’t have even the slightest intention! I started with them and I’m being well taken cared of so why transfer? If I receive outside offers? None that I know! What’s certain is I’m renewing my contract with the Kapuso anytime soon!” ends JC.

PEP:

"So, sobrang saya. Masaya ako 'tsaka proud ako para sa kanya [Shamcey] kasi parehas kami ng manager.

"And she's also from Mercator, so parang I'm just proud talaga ako.

"And maganda siya, matalino siya, the total package," pahayag ni Ian.

DARING IAN. Ano ang next project ni Ian?

"May movie ako with Regal Films. It's in the works.

"Kasama ko sina Daniel Matsunaga. So, I'm just waiting lang."

Sexy ang pelikulang gagawin niya?

"Malamang!"

Ready naman daw si Ian na magpaseksi.

"Oo, lagi akong nagwo-workout. I go to the gym a lot."

Hanggang saan ang kaya niyang paghuhubad?

"Underwear, puwede."

Butt exposure?

"Puwede, I'm game!"

Frontal nudity?

"No!" sabay tawa niya nang malakas

Category: Grassroots
SECOND PLACE
Company: GMA Network, Inc.
Entry Title: KAPUSO ABROAD MAGAZINE Kit

NAMIC (National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications) today announced the winners of its Excellence in Multi-cultural Marketing Awards (EMMA). Held in conjunction with the Annual NAMIC Conference, the awards competition recognizes marketing efforts targeting one or more cultural segments including, but not limited to African American, Asian and Hispanic markets. The 25th Annual NAMIC Conference is scheduled for October 4-5, 2011 at the Hilton New York in Manhattan as part of Diversity Week.

"The cable industry is committed to connecting their brands with an increasingly diverse audience," said Daphne Leroy, vice president of Marketing and Communications, NAMIC. "We are pleased to honor the latest group of EMMA winners for their achievements in creating culturally-relevant marketing programs that achieve results."

The EMMA competition recognizes the cable industry's commitment to maintaining best practices, while developing creative, strategic and innovative approaches to ethnic-targeted marketing. The competition is comprised of two award categories: Marketing Tactics and Case Studies/Campaigns. Entries submitted within each category were judged within two divisions: Cable Distributors and Networks/Industry Suppliers. A judging panel of independent industry experts evaluated entries and selected all winners based on sound and innovative strategy, strength of execution against the strategy, evaluations of strategy, implementation and results. Deviating from the traditional "best of" competition method, each entry was judged against a standard of excellence and not against other entrants, resulting in the potential for zero to multiple winners in each category.

Time Warner Cable and Time Warner Cable West Region led the Cable Distributors division with three first-place wins. Time Warner Cable's first-place honors were awarded in conjunction with Castells & Asociados, the Edelman agency and ES Advertising, Inc. Eclipse Marketing Services, Inc. garnered first-place honors in two categories. Cable Distributors taking first-place honors in a single category included Comcast in collaboration with the agency, GMR Marketing and Rogers Communications with the agency, Dyversity Communications.

International Media Distribution led the Networks/Industry Suppliers division with four first-place finishes, including single category wins with the agencies, Ameredia and FUSE Ideas. BET International garnered three first-place wins, while Univision Communications Inc. earned top honors in two categories. HBO, Telemundo Network and The Africa Channel each received first-place wins in a single category.

Companies receiving a 2011 EMMA will be acknowledged during the General Session of the 25th Annual NAMIC Conference scheduled for Wednesday, October 5 at 8:45 a.m. CableFAX is the exclusive media partner of the 2011 Excellence in Multi-cultural Marketing Awards. EMMA winners will be featured in the upcoming "Diversity Week" issue of CableFAX: The Magazine.

Kapuso hunks make their mark at the Cosmo Bachelor Bash

GMA NEWS / PEP:

MARK HERRAS. Pero ang pinakakabado nang husto ay si Mark Herras pagkat first time niyang rumampa sa ganung event.

Muntik na nga itong mag-backout dahil kulang daw siya sa preparasyon gawa ng sunud-sunod na taping nito sa Time of My Life.

Ilan pa sa mga Kapuso hunks at GMA Artist Center na rumampa sa Cosmo Bachelor Bash ay sina Mike Tan, Geoff Taylor, Gino dela Peña, at Jay Gonzaga.

The Peñafrancia festivities kicked-off last September 7 with an evening of music, elegance and style for the search for the “Miss Bicolandia 2011.” Supporters who showed up at the Naga City Coliseum were entertained by the heartwarming songs of King of Soul and Protégé mentor Janno Gibbs and a dance production number from Party Pilipinas’ Enzo Pineda. With them that night were Kapuso artists Isabel Daza and Victor Aliwalas, who both served as pageant hosts.

It was followed by the “Peñafrancia Festival Traslacion Procession” on September 9, which was shown live via GMA TV Naga, powered by the country’s most awarded broadcast news organization, GMA News and Public Affairs. Viewers who spent the day in the comfort of their homes were able to watch the breathtaking events of the procession via the Kapuso TV Special.

“Every year, the Kapuso Network looks forward in joining the Peñafrancia Festival. For this year, it is extra special with the back-to-back participation of our News and Public Affairs Group for their live coverage of the Traslacion last Friday and Entertainment TV Group’s Kapuso Night at the SM Naga on Sunday,” Oliver Amoroso, Assistant Vice President for Regional TV said.

The highlights of the festival can be seen via the TV Special airing on all eight (8) regional stations of the network in Naga City, Dagupan City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Cagayan de Oro, Davao City, and General Santos City, on October 2 from 8:30am to 9:30am.

Meet the Stars of GMA Dramarama

MST:

Breakout roles given to rising stars have given birth to GMA-7’s shortlist of Drama Princesses, making the afternoon soap block of the Kapuso network equally thrilling as its primetime teleserye stretch. The newly crowned foursome comprises of two mestizas who have long been in circulation just waiting to shine big-time. The other two pretty stars, given their potential, were immediately viewed capable of stepping out from the shadow of their iconic dads.

The quartet, namely, Jackie Rice, Bianca King, Maxene Magalona, and Kylie Padilla, are now soap lead stars. Thanks to noteworthy projects provided them that enabled their acting ability and on-screen charisma to glitter in front of the boobtube.

Jackie, a familiar teleserye figure since becoming StarStruck’s 3’s Ultimate Female Survivor, found her biggest break to date underwater with her role as Eden/Pearl de la Vida in the ongoing Sisid directed by famed character actor Ricky Davao. The story revolves around a pearl called Perlante “that is believed to give wealth and comfort to anyone who’ll get it.” Jackie’s character (whose leading men are JC Tiuseco, Ian Batherson, and Dominic Roco) is an expert diver. The fact that prior to Sisid’s taping run Jackie didn’t know how to swim as required is an indication of her good work ethic to improve on her act and rise well above any challenge.

For Bianca King who was initially known for her kontrabida roles, it felt “just like starting over” as she finally starred in a soap, a suspense-drama at that, with its crime and correctional theme. Since it began airing last June, Sinner or Saint is a crowning glory for Bianca who revealed she cried while reading the heavy drama’s script.

With her role as Noemi Manansala, an innocent sent to prison after taking the blame on a crime her lover actually committed, she has won the hearts of televiewers with her sincere portrayal. As a result, Bianca managed to well carry a series also starring Dennis Trillo, Alessandra de Rossi, and Polo Ravales, all known for their convincing acting skills.

Of course, the Dramarama Sa Hapon of the Kapuso Network turned out to be come-out parties, too, for Kylie and Maxene, both blessed to have come from prominent showbiz clans but somewhat pressured to deliver more than what’s expected of them.

Kylie, daughter of Idol Robin Padilla, managed to deliver the goods early on with her laudable performance as Jessa Gonzales/Jessica Santiago in the remake of Elena M. Patron’s Blusang Itim. “My father told me acting should come naturally because it’s in my blood. That piece of advice is most important to me,” she shared in an interview.

Maxene, one of the late Master Rapper Francis Magalona’s now-in-showbiz kids, also earned critical nods for her take as Vivian, one of the “three hearts caught in a web of deceit and struggle for truth” in the surprise hit My Lover, My Wife. She currently appears in a new series entitled Pahiram Ng Isang Ina opposite Carmina Villaroel, Bea Binene, and Jake Vargas.

GMA-7 can only take pride in its latest batch of drama princesses, all performing above expectations and deserving of the jewels they now wore.
