GMA Pinoy TV: Iza Calzado graces Singing Idol 2011 in Canada

Kapuso star Iza Calzado recently graced the grand finals of the Philippine News Today (PNT) Singing Idol 2011 Season IV in Vancouver, Canada.

Supported by GMA Network’s flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV, the singing competition is the Filipino Canadian community’s biggest talent contest.

The competition, which began in 2008, grants prizes to the most successful amateur singers in three age categories: Kids, Teens, and Adult.

Those who make it to the finals are winners of the various talent competitions held from February to August in different Filipino communities all over Greater Vancouver Area.

The top prize is a round trip air fare from Canada to the Philippines and a $1000 cash prize.

In an article on Philippine Asian News Today, Joseph Francia, Vice President and Head of Operations for GMA International, said GMA Pinoy TV supports PNT Singing Idol in discovering Pinoy talents in Vancouver.

“The competition is a good venue for Filipinos who possess incredible talent in singing to be discovered, not just by our kababayans in Vancouver but around the globe as well. And this is what we hope to achieve by extending our support to PNT Singing Idol," he said.

Iza Calzado: I am not dating President Aquino

Actress Iza Calzado denied on Wednesday the rumor that she is dating President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III after meeting the latter at a birthday party last week.

In a report on GMA News TV's "News To Go," Calzado said she only talked to Aquino during singer Ogie Alcasid's birthday party, where the two were introduced to each other.

"I was introduced to the President during kuya Ogie Alcasid's birthday party and I conversed with him there," she said. "As a matter of fact, I was honored to have had the opportunity to talk to him."

The actress, who just arrived from Canada, said she feels embarrassed that her introduction to Aquino has become a big deal.

"The last I checked, there's nothing wrong with (talking to the President), 'di ba? That does not equate to dating the President," she said.

Calzado added that she just came out of a relationship and is not ready for another one anytime soon.

Malacañang on Tuesday refused to comment on the matter.

"We don't comment on the President's social life so I will not comment on that," Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office head Ricky Carandang told reporters at a press briefing.

GMA7's Iza Calzado is P-Noy's rumored new love interest

Is President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III dating someone new, only days after he said his love life is practically "zero"?

After being linked to Filipino-Korean TV host Grace Lee, Aquino is now being linked to another Kapuso — actress Iza Calzado.

Some people reportedly saw the two on a date after the birthday party of singer Ogie Alcasid, according to a report on 24 Oras' Chika Minute last Monday.


The report said Alcasid introduced Calzado to some of Aquino's friends, who in turn introduced the actress to the President.

However, Alcasid denied the rumor that the two are dating.

"Hindi sila nagde-date. Nagkakilala lang sila sa party," Alcasid said.

According to the same report, Calzado's manager Noel Ferrer also denied that Calzado and the President are seeing each other. Meanwhile, Aquino's camp has not said anything about the rumor.

Malacañang on Tuesday refused to comment on the matter.

"Parang Wikileaks ‘yan eh. We don’t comment on the President’s social life so I will not comment on that," said Ricky Carandang, head of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office, at a press briefing in Malacañang.

Iza Calzado on breakup with Atticus King: "We had a good run, tapos na."

Noong August 12 ay ipinagdiwang ni Iza Calzado ang kanyang 29th birthday sa noontime show ng GMA-7 na Eat Bulaga!.

Pero imbes na maging masaya ang Kapuso actress sa pagdiriwang ng kanyang birthday ay nabahiran ito ng kalungkutan.

Ito ay may kinalaman sa paghihiwalay nila ng kanyang longtime boyfriend at businessman na si Atticus King.

Sa live interview ni Iza sa Showbiz Central kahapon, August 21, ay isiniwalat ng aktres ang kanyang saloobin tungkol dito—sa una at huling pagkakataon.

Sabi ng nag-interview kay Iza na si Pia Guanio, na kasamahan din ng aktres sa Eat Bulaga!, "It's supposed to be a happy day for you, pero instead of laughter it became tears. Ano bang nangyari sa 'yo that day talaga?"

Ang tinutukoy ni Pia ay ang birthday celebration nga ni Iza sa Eat Bulaga!.

"Well, I was laughing during that whole thing in between the crying, di ba?" tumatawang sabi ni Iza.

"A, no... Okay, basically you're asking why I cried. I cried because I was feeling very emotional that day.

"Alam mo yun? Birthday ko, e, and like what's been coming out in the tabloids, the rumors are true—and I have been single for quite some time.

"And it was the very first birthday in a long time na sinelebreyt ko na single ako.

"And siguro kaya din... I was thinking of going out of the country but I opted to celebrate it in Eat Bulaga!.

"Kasi sabi ko, every time nga na nasa Eat Bulaga! ako, napi-feel ko talaga yung love, may support, you know, and happiness whenever I'm on set.

"So, that day was just very emotional for me and I didn't realize that I was going to cry like that.

"Pero ano naman, you know it turned out really well, yeah."

So were those tears of joy or sadness?

"A little bit of both, maybe," sagot ni Iza.

"Siyempre, di ba, malungkot ka, kasi may masakit kang pinagdaanan.

"Pero at the same time, masaya ka kasi you know life goes on.

"And it can only get better from here because it's all about the mindset, you know.

"So that's how I always view things naman, e."

END OF A RELATIONSHIP. Nagwakas na nga ang two and a half years nilang relasyon ni Atticus.

Ang mga kasamahan daw ni Iza sa Eat Bulaga! ang ilan sa mga unang sinabihan niya about the breakup.

"Yes, because... Oo, yun nga, kasi medyo parang pumapasok ako [sa Eat Bulaga!] tulala, di ba? Parang hindi ko... di ba?

"But thank you din sa inyo, sa lahat ng mga kasama ko sa Eat Bulaga! because it took a while bago siya lumabas sa newspaper or tabloids, which means that for a long time, walang nagsalita about it.

"And perfect lang kasi I think now is just the best time for me to talk about it.

"Kasi kung before, baka yung nakita ninyo sa Bulaga, mas malala pa!" at muling tumawa si Iza.

Tinanong naman ni Pia kung ano ang dahilan ng hiwalayan nina Iza at Atticus.

Sabi ni Iza, "Ganito na lang siguro 'yan... Di ba, ang tao nagmamahalan?

"Minsan may mga rason kung bakit kayo... why you end up with a certain person.

"Sometimes it's because... ano ba yung sabi nila? Na, 'Some people are there for a reason or a lifetime.'

"I think for this one, it's for a reason and a season.

"Because, for a reason, I had to learn so many things from him, and I did.

"And I'm very, very grateful to him, his family, and to the relationship that we had because I don't think I'll be this woman that I am now if not for that relationship.

"And unfortunately, I can't really say that it's for a lifetime.

"Maybe the friendship will be for a lifetime, and I'd love for the friendship to be there forever.

"But iyon, kumbaga, we had a good run, tapos na.

"Masaya naman kaming nagkasundo na, tapos na ang lahat, and we ended it well.

"And now it's time for us to live our lives, kumbaga, separately."

NO REGRETS. Ano ang masasabi niyang mga bagay na kung hindi dahil kay Atticus ay hindi niya mare-realize tungkol sa sarili niya?

"If not just... tungkol sa sarili ko, yung mga naituro lang. You know, he's a very big factor why I'm more into health and fitness now.

"You know, siguro being with him, mas naging babae ako!" natatawang sabi ni Iza.

Paliwanag niya, "Cowboy na cowboy kasi ako dati, e. Medyo na-polish niya ako dun.

"'Tsaka marami siyang naituro sa akin and like... hindi ko na iisa-isahin, sa amin na lang yun.

"Basta masaya ako na nakilala ko siya at marami akong natutunan sa kanya."

No regrets?

"Oh, never, never regret anything in your life, especially something like this because it was beautiful when it was there.

"Kasi ikaklaro ko lang, usually I don't like, you know, the sit-downs, one-on-one interviews or, you know, televising a lot of personal things.

"Kaya lang kasi, kesa naman po sa sumagot ako sa bawat reporter na magtanong sa akin, minabuti ko nang makipag-usap sa isang kaibigan at sabihin ng isang beses lang para tapos na po ang lahat.

"So, kaklaruhin ko lang, from this point on, huwag na po nating pag-usapan kasi nirerespeto ko po nang husto ang pamilya nila [Atticus's family], hindi naman sila showbiz.

"Huwag na ho natin silang pag-usapan at idamay pa, ilagay sa tabloids.

"Yun na lang po ang kahilingan ko," saad niya.

Paano niya na get-over ang pangyayari?

"Ito na lang yun... Siguro it goes with the years of... sabihin na lang nating of being wiser.

"Being twenty-nine what I realized was... Before kasi, you know, whenever I would go through a breakup, I go out. You know, papa-cute ka sa boys, you know.

"It would always be an ego thing. There was always a need to fill in a certain gap and you don't do that by looking to others.

"So ngayon, ang ginawa ko, tiningnan ko ang sarili ko, inisip ko, 'Ano ba yung kulang, ano ba yung dapat gawin para sa sarili ko?'

"So, I took a vacation. I went somewhere alone for a few days.

"Talagang everything was to look inside, intindihin ko yung sarili ko, intindihin ko kung ano yung kailangan kong gawin para sa sarili ko.

"Kaya din siguro maraming mga biyayang dumating.

"At saka trust this—God will always give you exactly what you need at the perfect time! Always."

Noong August 12 ay ipinagdiwang ni Iza Calzado ang kanyang 29th birthday sa noontime show ng GMA-7 na Eat Bulaga!.

Pero imbes na maging masaya ang Kapuso actress sa pagdiriwang ng kanyang birthday ay nabahiran ito ng kalungkutan.

Ito ay may kinalaman sa paghihiwalay nila ng kanyang longtime boyfriend at businessman na si Atticus King.

Sa live interview ni Iza sa Showbiz Central kahapon, August 21, ay isiniwalat ng aktres ang kanyang saloobin tungkol dito—sa una at huling pagkakataon.

Sabi ng nag-interview kay Iza na si Pia Guanio, na kasamahan din ng aktres sa Eat Bulaga!, "It's supposed to be a happy day for you, pero instead of laughter it became tears. Ano bang nangyari sa 'yo that day talaga?"

Ang tinutukoy ni Pia ay ang birthday celebration nga ni Iza sa Eat Bulaga!.

"Sometimes it's because... ano ba yung sabi nila? Na, 'Some people are there for a reason or a lifetime.'

"I think for this one, it's for a reason and a season.

"Because, for a reason, I had to learn so many things from him, and I did.

"And I'm very, very grateful to him, his family, and to the relationship that we had because I don't think I'll be this woman that I am now if not for that relationship.

"And unfortunately, I can't really say that it's for a lifetime.

"Maybe the friendship will be for a lifetime, and I'd love for the friendship to be there forever.

"But iyon, kumbaga, we had a good run, tapos na.

"Masaya naman kaming nagkasundo na, tapos na ang lahat, and we ended it well.

"And now it's time for us to live our lives, kumbaga, separately."

NO REGRETS. Ano ang masasabi niyang mga bagay na kung hindi dahil kay Atticus ay hindi niya mare-realize tungkol sa sarili niya?

"If not just... tungkol sa sarili ko, yung mga naituro lang. You know, he's a very big factor why I'm more into health and fitness now.
