Steven Spielberg Confirms JURASSIC PARK 4

After a very long time it seems we finally have a definitive answer about the future of the "Jurassic Park" franchise. Steven Spielberg himself dropped the information at a press conference for "The Adventures of Tintin", at this year's Comic-Con. According to him, they already have a script ready and it will probably take two-three years to make and release the sequel. This pretty much explains why Joe Johnston, who directed "Jurassic Park III", was generating some solid buzz around the project for the past few months now. Clearly he's eager to direct this sequel as well, but I hope they'll work hard to make an actual movie this time and not just a tired money-grabbing action flick like part III was. And if we are to believe Johnston's statements so far, it seems they intend to take it in a new direction with some new characters, which will probably lead the franchise into a new trilogy, which is a pretty cool idea, if done properly. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGERS (2011) - Two New Featurettes

Here are two new featurettes for "Captain America: The First Avenger", Marvel Studios' latest comic book adaptation, directed by Joe Johnston ("Jumanji", "Jurassic Park III") and starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Natalie Dormer, Stanley Tucci and Dominic Cooper. The featurettes offer interesting insight into the movie's production provided by the cast and crew. Opens on July 22, 2011 (US).

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER (2011) - Alan Silvestri's Original Score Preview

This is a 13 minute preview of the original score for "Captain America: The First Avenger", composed by Alan Silvestri. I'm a big fan of Alan Silvestri's work, particularly his scores for Robert Zemeckis' movies, "Forrest Gump", "Contact", "Cast Away", "The Polar Express" and, of course, the "Back to the Future" trilogy. The composer has over 100 scores in his resume and two Oscar nominations for Best Original Song ("Believe" - "The Polar Express") and Best Original Score ("Forrest Gump").

CAPTAIN AMERICA (2011) - 'Behind the Shield' Featurette

The Featurette sets up the backstory of the character and gives us plenty of details about the concept and making of the Shield, Captain America's tool of inflicting justice on the bad guys. It's a bit annoying how Norton conceived their product placement in the featurette. The whole buy-me concept is completely wasted on me, though. I use Avira. "Captain America: The First Avenger" comes out on July 22, 2011.

JURASSIC PARK 4 Still in the Works

Exactly ten years have passed since the last Jurassic Park sequel, the third, came out. It was sort of successful, but it just wasn't very good. It was clear that they simply had no idea how to move the franchise forward, so they called Sam Neill back and got him to run around, chased by CGI dinosaurs. Spielberg himself took a step back and let Joe Johnston ("Jumanji" "Wolfman") direct it. Since then, rumors have surfaced on and off about "Jurassic Park 4" and you know that when rumors start to fly, there's got to be some truth to them.

In 2009, director Joe Johnston had this to say about the future of the franchise : "Well, there is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it’s nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved." Since then, however, nothing else happened. The project seemed dead in the water. In the same interview, Johnston also mentioned that they might even push for a second trilogy, one that would deal with a completely different storyline.

On the other hand, when asked about Jurassic Park about a month ago, Sam Neill had this to say : "I think we’ve told the story. I think it’s done… Stan Winston who made those beautiful dinosaurs died. So, no Stan, no ‘Jurassic Park’ really … [and author Michael] Crichton died too".

A week ago, reports have been heating up again. Exclusive reports on the net mentioned that Steven Spielberg has been meeeting with writer Mark Protosevich ("The Cell", "I Am Legend", "Poseidon") to discuss potential ideas for a fourth movie. Spielberg has been involved in several projects this year, serving as executive producer on "Transformers: Dark of the Moon", "Super 8", "Cowboys & Aliens", "Real Steel", as well as two TV series : "Falling Skies" and "Terra Nova". He's also set to release "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" (co-produced alongside Peter Jackson) and "War Horse" this December, both of which he directed. So, it's safe to say that Spielberg is back in the saddle and rushing to get back into the fray. Who knows, maybe he'll even return to direct "Jurassic Park 4". With all due respect to Johnston's work, "Jurassic Park III" is the worst in the trilogy. Perhaps if he had a decent story to work with... Still, I'd rather see Spielberg return to the franchise. We'll see.
