First Look at Superman's New Costume

Filming in the street usually means lots and lots of photo opportunities which allow us to catch a glimpse of what a movie like "Man of Steel" will look like. Some weeks ago Warner Brothers released the first official image of Henry Cavill as Superman, but the dark texture of the image didn't allow for a clear look at the suit. Now, thanks to the heroic efforts of some anonymous photographer, we get a much better look at the Superman suit. It's easy to notice that the design has suffered some modifications, but nothing too drastic. It actually looks pretty cool. First thing I noticed was that the yellow belt is gone, allowing for a more streamlined costume design. Overall, the suit has a very modern feel to it, which is a good thing. I'm just curious as to why in one picture he has the red cape on and in the other, no cape. Is it possible that in some scenes the cape will be added through CGI ?



"Man of Steel" is directed by Zack Snyder ("300", "Watchmen") and produced by Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Knight", "Inception"), with a production budget estimated at $175M. Beside Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, the movie also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Marha Kent, Julia Ormand as Lara Lor-Van and Russell Crowe as Jor-El. Scheduled for release on June 14, 2013.

Bradley Cooper Flies Away From THE CROW Reboot

Not surprising at all, considering the movie is still rounding up its cast and crew, Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover", "Limitless") has dropped out of the leading role of the troubled "The Crow" reboot, because he's already scheduled to begin work with director Alex Proyas on "Paradise Lost". This would be the second actor that leaves the project, the first one being Mark Wahlberg, although rumors of Wahlberg's return are starting to rise. For now the reboot still has a director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ("28 Weeks Later") and a writer, Alex Tse ("Watchmen"), and is expected to be released sometime in 2013, although at this rate, it might not make the deadline.



Another name rumored to replace Bradley Cooper is that of Channing Tatum ("Fighting", "Dear John", "The Eagle"), a young actor that's pretty hot now in Hollywood, but one that I honestly don't see taking on this role. Throughout the history of the franchise, there have been four other movies that never succeeded in equaling the original and neither of the four leading actors managed to even come close to Brandon Lee's iconic performance. There was also a one-season TV series starring Marc Dacascos as Eric Draven that was a lot closer to the spirit of the 1994 movie, but behind-the-scenes politics sunk it while season 2 was still in pre-production. Needless to say, this upcoming reboot is going to have a hard time meeting expectations.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Release Date Announced

We might as well accept the fact that there is a Spider-Man reboot and that Sony intends to turn it into a franchise that may possibly even live to grow past the trilogy milestone. Next year, on July 3rd, "The Amazing Spider-Man" is coming out. As we speak, they have completed filming and are preparing to enter post-production. Now, Sony has announced a release date for the sequel : May 2nd, 2014. I guess they must be feeling pretty confident about this project. The script for the next installment is already underway. "The Amazing Spider-Man" is directed by Mark Webb ("500 Days of Summer") and stars Andrew Garfield ("The Social Network") as Peter Parker/Spidey, Emma Stone ("Easy A") as Gwen Stacy, Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Ben and May Parker, Peter's uncle and aunt, and Denis Leary as police captain George Stacy. The villains this time around will be The Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Proto-Goblin (Irrfan Khan). What happened to the good old days when movies only had one villain ? Thank God "The Avengers" movie will even things up a bit by having more than one hero.

MAN OF STEEL (2013) - First Official Image and Press Release

The first official image from Zack Snyder's reboot of the Superman franchise has been made public, along with a press release containing everything you need to know about the movie. The picture, as you can see, shows Henry Cavill as Superman, who in this case looks like he's having a hard time fighting crime. You can click the image to see it enlarged. So far, it looks like they won't be deviating from the super-hero's traditional look. The movie opens on June 14th, 2013. Below you can read the full press release from Warner Bros :

"BURBANK, CA, August 4, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have provided the first look at the new “Man of Steel,” revealing star Henry Cavill as Superman in the film from director Zack Snyder.

The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Release Date Updates for Next Year's Blockbusters

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, formerly known as "Cobra Strikes", the sequel to the 2009 action blockbuster based on the G.I. Joy toy franchise, is set to open on June 29, 2012, a date which was initially prepared for another one of Paramount Picture's big projects, "Star Trek 2". But, since that movie is still in pre-production (script still being written), it was time to make room for a movie that can actually make the summer deadline. It is unknown at this time whether or not "Star Trek 2" will be released in 2012, or 2013. We'll have to wait and see. "G.I. Joe: Retaliation"  stars Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Ray Stevenson, Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, Arnold Vosloo and RZA, and is directed by Jon M. Chu ("Justin Bieber: Never Say Never", "Step Up 3D").

MAN OF STEEL, Zack Snyder's reboot of the Superman franchise has been removed from its December 2012 release date and scheduled for June 13, 2013. This move allows the movie a little more breathing room, since 2012 is pretty much packed with all kinds of major releases. The super-hero epic stars Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Clark's adoptive parents, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Julia Ormond and Russel Crowe as Jor-El. With a dream cast like this, what could possibly go wrong ? Well, with a budget of $175M, let's hope not a lot.

ONE SHOT and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL, two Tom Cruise starrers have also received release date updates. The military thriller "One Shot" has received its first one, February 8, 2011, while "M:I 4" has changed its original December 16 date to December 21, 2011, which means it will open opposite of David Fincher's remake of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". As for "One Shot", its February release date puts it at safe distance from any other big projects from rival studios. Both movies are produced by Paramount Pictures. "One Shot" is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote both "M:I 4" and another Tom Cruise vehicle, "Valkyrie", while the fourth "Mission: Impossible" sequel is directed by Brad Bird who is responsible for some of Pixar's biggest hits, like "Ratatouille" and "The Incredibles".

EVIL DEAD Remake is Alive and Well

There has been a lot of speculation about the future of the "Evil Dead" franchise. The third and last of Sam Raimi's horror adventure was released almost 20 years ago, in 1993 and since then the series has lost its momentum despite fans still keeping their hopes up. As time went by, Bruce Campbell grew older and Sam Raimi went to work on the "Spiderman" franchise, it became fairly obvious there was no point in making a sequel anymore. Fans were no doubt worried and even I was a little disappointed about the whole situation. Eventually, Sam Raimi and co. decided on a remake, one that would hopefully reboot the franchise and spawn another trilogy. Read on to see what the future holds for the new "Evil Dead".

WATCHMEN Writer Joins THE CROW Reboot

Reluctant as I may be when it comes to seeing a reboot of Alex Proyas' cult classic, "The Crow", I still find the names involved in its making to be intriguing. The first name that was dropped some time ago was that of director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who in 2006 directed "28 Weeks Later", the sequel to Danny Boyle's zombie classic. No doubt he has the dark touch needed for this movie Then the search for a leading man to step in Brandon Lee's shoes began. For a while, Mark Wahlberg's name was dropped as favorite for the supernatural anti-hero. Now, Bradley Cooper ("Limitless", "The Hangover Part I & II") is the new Eric Draven, the man who returns from the grave to avenge his wife's murder. The latest addition to the roster is "Watchmen" writer Alex Tse. According to Relativity Media, the reboot will be a gritty reimagining of the original concept. Now, anyone who has seen the Alex Proyas movie knows how cool it was, an innovative gothic action thriller brimming with slick cinematography and production design. Will they be able to pull it off again ?

There are still many problems yet to be resolved. For one, there's the legal trouble with the Weinstein Company (formerly Miramax), who claim Relativity Media is illegally shopping around for distribution rights that are rightfully owned by the Weinsteins. And, of course, Bradley Cooper's casting was met with harsh scepticism by fans. But, I trust he can pull off an intense dramatic performance. If you don't believe me, check out "Midnight Meat Train", or even "Limitless".

COMMANDO Reboot Script Completed

Sure, the big news here is that the script for a reboot of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie "Commando" has been completed by David Ayer ("Training Day", "S.W.A.T."), but for those of you who weren't aware there was actually a reboot in the works, that's the bigger news. Obviously Schwarzenegger won't be involved and there's no word yet on who will play the lead role, or even if it's going to follow the original's storyline. I was very surprised to hear them consider a "Commando" reboot, mainly because the movie itself wasn't exactly a franchise and especially because it wasn't a huge hit at the time. Producer John Davis ("Predators", "I, Robot", "Behind Enemy Lines") gave and interview for Collider and he had the following to say :

"We have a really great script. You know, I don’t know if it really makes sense to call it Commando. Maybe it does or maybe doesn’t. It is the reboot of it and all of that stuff. It is David Ayer, who did Training Day. He wrote it and wants to direct it. It is there and it is a brilliant script. It is just waiting for the right moment for the studio to want to make it and finding the right actor…Right now the script this is written is a hard R"

 It seems Ayer wants to give the movie a realistic feel, since this is the trend these days : taking old movies and/or franchises and going for a dark, gritty feel. According to Ayer, the protagonist will be "less brawny, but more skilled in covert tactics and weaponry". I honestly liked the original and I liked it for what it was : a brainless action movie that put one-liners and an outrageous body count ahead of realism. Still, Ayer's "S.W.A.T." script was full of clever treats as well as macho gung-ho action, so I guess he's the man to write this reboot. And in case you've never even heard of "Commando", here's a little trailer to give you a taste :

Oh yeah, it was just a matter of time before the filmmakers decided nothing excites moviegoers more than a gory R-rated trailer. And here it is, from the depths of bloody cinema, comes the Red Band trailer for "Conan The Barbarian". From what I can tell so far, the story and characters won't really be the focus of this movie. This is probably going to be one of those mindless ultra-violent romps. Oh well, if everything else fails, the least it could be is fun. Opens August 19, 2011.

The second of the TV Spots for "Conan the Barbarian" is here and it provides a potent mix of action and plot elements. The reboot looks to be exactly the violent R-rated spectacle the filmmakers promised and Jason Momoa looks right at home as the muscular warrior. The movie opens on August 19, 2011.

This first TV Spot (of many, probably) for the "Conan the Barbarian" reboot is filled with hard action and neat visuals. Considering they promised that the new adventures of the legendary Cimmerian warrior will be in the hard-R category, it's possible there will be some very bloody treats for those who like their sword fights gory. Not to mention nudity. You've got to have nudity in these movies. Opens on August 19, 2011.
