Pop Star Rain to enlist in October

MB:

Asian pop star Rain will enlist in the Korean military in October, according to Korean media.

Rain reportedly received his draft notice from Korea’s Military Manpower Administration, which manages the military enlistment of Korean citizens.

A Korean news site said that Rain will enter the military training camp on Oct. 11 and that he will hold a press conference on Sept. 24 to talk about his enlistment.

However, the popular singer tweeted that while there will be a press conference, it will not be about his entry into the military.

“Oh my ㅠ.. Why should I give a press conference as if my military service is something to brag about ~ The article is misleading, too ㅠ...I'll inform you as soon as the date is confirmed...And, there will be an announcement about my military service while I run a big project before entering the military, not during a press conference,” Rain’s tweet said as translated by Twitter account @cloudunite.

Rain was supposed to enlist in the military last year but requested the MMA to postpone it due to his career and schooling.

The press conference next week will be held on the finale of his “2011 Rain Tour: The Best Show” concert. The singer kicked off his concert tour last Aug. 13 and will wrap it up on Sept. 24 and 25 at the Seoul Olympic Park Stadium.

Rain has also completed the filming of his movie “Flight: Close to the Sun” with actress Shin Se Kyung.

The singer will receive four weeks of basic military training at the Nonsan Army Training Center after which he will start his military service for close to two years.

K-Pop Star Kim Hyun Joong Reveals His Beauty Picks

COSMO:

Korean pop star Kim Hyun Joong is not only loved for his music (as the former lead singer of SS501 and now solo artist) and his roles in popular Korean series Boys Over Flowers and Playful Kiss, but also for his gorgeous looks and that flawless skin you can't help but envy! His secret? The 25-year-old star swears by The Face Shop products, which he has been representing for a year now.

Just the day after the very successful launch of his album "Break Down" here in Manila, Kim Hyun Joong faced members of the beauty press at the Palm Grove, Rockwell Club last August 26 for his press conference as The Face Shop brand ambassador. This visit is part of his endorser duties, which includes visiting the 22 countries where The Face Shop has branches. Lucky for his Filipino fans, the Philippines is part of his Asian tour.

Kim Hyun Joong's Beauty Picks

Naturally, the beauty press wanted to know what his "beauty secret" is, and he said that he simply eats what he wants and gets plenty of sleep. He also uses The Face Shop products, naturally. "I can't tell you my favorite Face Shop product because I use a lot," said Kim Hyun Joong through a Korean interpreter. "If ever there's one, it would be E'thym moisturizer." Trivia: E'thym is a play on the phrase "eh-deh-da," which means baby-faced and youthful looking. It's The Face Shop's overseas flagship moisturizing line for summer 2011.

Kim Hyun Joong says he also uses The Face Shop BB Cream with SPF--especially the Power Perfection BB Cream--which he finds easy to apply and gives long-lasting, oil-free protection. He recommends this to his Filipina fans, too, especially when they're traveling with their man. He emphasized the importance of using sunblock and moisturizer—even for men—especially in a tropical country like ours. He believes it's time men cared for their skin, too.

However, if you'd like to know what makeup look he likes seeing on women, Hyun Joong would say it doesn't really matter to him. "I don't judge [a person] based on looks. I go more for inner beauty. I value personality more over appearance."

Cosmo.ph did get to ask Kim Hyun Joong what his favorite scent on a woman is, and the Korean heartthrob responded with a smile: "The scent of coconut oil." He first had a whiff of it when he got a massage in Cebu on his last visit, last year. (Event host Grace Lee remarked, "What a lucky masseuse--whoever she was!")

Hyun Joong's Heart Of Gold

A heartwarming moment at his The Face Shop presscon happened when Kim Hyun Joong met the highest bidder for the auction of an outfit he wore at an event. The P100,000 proceeds were donated to the women of Abiertas, one of the charities in the Philippines that the Korean star supports. The highest bidder was the daughter of an old lady who proved to be his biggest fan in the Philippines.

"I've been to the Philippines before, but this trip is a little more special for me because of the chance to work for our unfortunate sisters," Kim Hyun Joong said when presenting the check to the foundation. "Thank you, and don't forget [to keep] the warmth in your hearts."

K-Pop acts that could make it big in the Philippines

YAHOO NEWS:

Now that the Hallyu phenomenon is officially in full swing, many K-Pop acts are seeking bigger and brighter futures as regional stars in Asia and across the world. Established stars like SM Entertainment's Super Junior, Girls' Generation, TVXQ, and SHINee, YG Entertainment's Big Bang and 2NE1, and JYP's 2PM, 2AM, and Wonder Girls are among the many legendary K-Pop artists who are making waves all across Asia, including the Philippines.

Let's take a look at a few K-Pop acts who are currently not available locally but may be quite big if their music was released in the country.

Secret

This four-member girl group officially hit the big time when their single Shy Boy topped a variety of K-Pop music charts, including the Big Three countdowns (Inkigayo, M! Countdown, and Music Bank). Their follow-up Starlight Moonlight was equally charming with its light pop 60s atmosphere. But before Hyosung, Jieun, Zinger, and Sunhwa took the pa-cute route to stardom, they unleashed two aggressive pop-rock tracks to K-Pop radio including the irresistibly brassy radio hit Madonna (the Japanese version of which recently entered the Top 10 in Japan) and the effusively infectious horns-tinged Magic. Reminiscent of Beyonce, but with the sweetness that only K-Pop girl groups can give, a Secret album that compiles these four tracks would be an ideal introduction of this talented foursome to the local market.

Winterplay

Winterplay is a four-piece Korean jazz quartet who came to the Philippines in 2009 as part of the Korea-Philippines Friendship celebration, alongside idol group SHINee and hiphop artists Mighty Mouth. Lee JuHan (trumpet), Choi Woo Joon (guitarist), and So Eun Kyu (contrabassist) amazed the crowd with their excellent pop-jazz material, but vocalist Moon Hye Won charmed the Philippine audience with her warm voice and elegant charm. The band promised to release an album locally, but to date, we have yet to see any new material from this talented foursome. Check out the group's YouTube page here to get a taste of some delightfully seasoned K-Pop jazz.

Piggy Dolls

Filipinos love the divas, and we are generally kinder to, um, plus-sized artists more than other cultures. In an industry of stick-thin idols, Piggy Dolls was supposed to stand out when they debuted, touting impressive vocal skills alongside great dance moves. The way the girls danced and sang despite their size was already noteworthy. Videos of them singing killer vocal tracks like "One Night Only" from "Dreamgirls" only underscored their talent.

U-KISS returns with ‘Neverland’

YAHOO NEWS:

Calling Filipino KissMes! U-KISS is baaaccckkk!

Popular K-Pop idol group U-KISS is back with their second full-length album entitled "Neverland". The talented group composed of Dongho, Soohyun, Kiseop, Eli, Kevin, AJ and Hoon, have returned to their original U-KISS roots of dark charm and electronica-inspired dance music. Needless to say, I am liking this release more that the group's recent mini-album "Bran New Kiss" where the U-KISS boys tried the "cute" concept. To me, U-KISS is at their best when they do the dark masculine concept.

U-KISS's second album "Neverland" contains a total of 12 tracks and 1 instrumental track. The track listing is as follows:

1. Intro
2. Neverland
3. Baby Don't Cry
4. Someday
5. Take Me Away
6. On The Floor
7. Love of a Friend
8. Story of April
9. Obsession
10. Top That
11. Tell Me Y
12. We'll Meet Again
13. Someday (Instrumental)

It was reported U-KISS recorded "Neverland" in both Korea and Japan where they collaborated with the best sound engineers and recorded in high level recording studios. For this album, U-KISS had also worked with an American producer and some members, specifically AJ and Kiseop, actually took part in composing some of the tracks.

"Neverland" was released in Korea on September 1 and has already achieved success by placing number 1 in the Hanteo weekly chart. Hopefully, U-KISS' "Neverland" will be made available locally soon as U-KISS has a lot of fans in the country.

Super Junior Heechul enters Korean military

MB:

Despite his wish to enter the military quietly, Super Junior member Heechul was unable to avoid creating a stir, with fans bidding him farewell outside the Nonsan Army Training Center in South Chungcheon province, South Korea on Sept. 1.

Sporting a buzz haircut, Heechul greeted fans that came from different countries, including Thailand, as well as the media for the last time before he entered the camp. Some of his fans even became emotional at the time.

At Nonsan, 28-year-old Heechul will undergo four weeks of basic training and then serve as public service personnel for 23 months.

He promised to come back a different and better person.

A day before he enlisted in the army, Heechul’s posted photos of himself with his new haircut on Twitter.

It was an emotional week for Super Junior and their fans because of Heechul’s military service.

Fans were caught by surprise when it was announced last Aug. 22 that Heechul would be enlisting.

Heechul is the second Super Junior member to enter the military. Kangin enlisted last year.

Heechul is the second Super Junior member to enter the military. Kangin enlisted last year.

Next in the lineup will be Leeteuk, leader of Super Junior, but no date of his enlistment has been announced yet.

Korean star Kim Hyun Joong meets 74-year-old Filipina fan

PEP:

74-YEAR-OLD FAN.

Kaya nang mabalitaan ang tungkol sa auction, sinabi raw ni Maria Rosario sa kanyang ina, "Mom, I will try my best to win this for you so you can take a photo with him."

Super Junior's Leeteuk sheds tears on Heechul's last TV performance

MB:

Super Junior member Heechul will be enlisting in the military on Sept. 1 and his co-members are feeling the sadness and pain of him being away from them for two years.

On Sunday, Heechul, together with the boy band, held his last TV performance on SBS “Inkigayo” music program to promote “Mr. Simple," the title track of their fifth album.

It was a perfect sendoff to Heechul as Super Junior won their second “Inkigayo” Mutizen Song chart award.

However, Super Junior’s leader Leeteuk could not help but shed tears as he thanked everyone for the award.

“Thank you to all for giving us this award. Thank you SM family and Heechul,” he said.

For his part, Heechul thanked Super Junior members and said he will come back as a healthy person.

“Today was my last performance, and I wanted to say thanks to our Super Junior members. I’m thankful to my fellow younger members for always following me and my friend, Jungsoo (Leeteuk), for always smiling through difficult times. Thank you to all of our managers and crew for putting up with my bad temper. Lastly, I love our fans. I’ll come back safely, stay healthy!” said Heechul, according to Soompi.com.

Heechul will be entering the military training camp on Sept. 1 quietly and without fanfare.

He is the second Super Junior member to enlist in the military. Kangin enlisted first last year.

Leader Leeteuk will also enlist in the military soon but no specific date has been announced.
