GMA-7's danserye Time of My Life cast members receive recognition from AFP Medical Center

"Last August 31, the cast of GMA-7's primetime series, Time of My Life, received a certificate of appreciation from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center.

"Often taping in the AFP Medical Center Compound, Time of My Life's cast got an invitation to perform for patients in the hospital's 74th anniversary celebration.

"In spite of tight taping schedules, Rocco Nacino, Ryza Cenon, Steven Silva, Enzo Pineda, Mayton Eugenio, with the Next Gen Dancers and the BOD Dancers danced in the event on August 31.

"After the program, the AFP Medical Center surprised them by giving them a certificate of appreciation for providing entertainment to the celebration seldom experienced by civilian and uniformed patients in the institution.

"This proves that Time of My Life's success as a program transcends the television experience it provides Filipinos.

"Meanwhile, the primetime series has also maintained high viewership according to the more widely recognized TV ratings data supplier, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. From August 1-31 (August 29-31 figures are based on overnight data), Time of My Life scored an average of 41% household audience share in Mega Manila.

"Despite the changing primetime lineup of GMA-7, Time of My Life won against counterpart programs Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, Guns and Roses and The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition which received 35.8%, 28.8% and 24.9% household audience shares, respectively.

"Be continually inspired by the only danserye on local television. Watch Time of My Life weeknights after Munting Heredera on GMA-7."

Kapuso Stars rising above contravida roles

Typecasting used to be a huge, insurmountable stumbling block to an actor’s rise to stardom. Recent events have proven this otherwise.

Back then, if one jumpstarted his career playing villain roles the way Bella Flores and Zeny Zabala cornered the market in the 1950s and ’60s and throughout the ’70s, it literally meant the end of whatever ambitions they had for stardom.

Happily, such a mindset has changed through the years. Producers point to a growing maturity on the part of audiences, who can now appreciate an actor for his talent and not just for his looks or what he had prior.

GMA Network is revolutionary in casting actors formerly known as contravidas in lead roles.

Glaiza de Castro as Grazilda, Jackie Rice in “Sisid,” and Bianca King in “Sinner or Saint” are recent beneficiaries of the network’s unorthodox policy in juggling roles.

Earlier, before the nation was shocked by her sex video scandal, there was Katrina Halili in “Magdusa Ka.”

Katrina, Glaiza, Jackie, and Bianca had been some of GMA’s resident contravidas before network took a second look at them and cast them in lead roles.

The move is apparently part of GMA’s efforts to build up as many lead stars as possible. It is a vision not shared by ABS-CBN, whose concept of lead stars is glamour minus the fangs.

Kapuso stars throw support behind anti-human sex trafficking campaign

Celebrity power is best when it is used to campaign against a social dilemma.

With human sex trafficking bound to become the number one crime in the world by the end of this year, a number of Kapuso stars heeded the call to support a worthy awareness campaign aimed at fighting the terrible trade. Last Aug. 22, several of GMA-7’s brightest stars were all “Called to Rescue” via a briefing that enabled them to learn more about sex trafficking and how dreaded it has become.

GMA Artist Center (GMAAC) gathered some of their most popular talents for the occasion, led by actresses Rhian Ramos and Bela Padilla. Putting to consideration their drawing power as celebrities, they were encouraged to “create noise” against the globally lucrative sex trafficking industry, “be more vigilant” on capturing pimps and “be extra wary and protective” of women and children victims.

Dr. Cyndi Romine, founder of “Called to Rescue” campaign, facilitated the briefing, with another familiar figure, Anthony Pangilinan, in attendance, as he is one of the country’s board of directors involved in the campaign.

The Philippines is reportedly the fourth largest country among 127 nations into trafficking humans for sex. Around the world, 1.2 million children are victimized every year; 100,000 of them Filipinos.

Apart from Rhian and Bela, other GMAAC acts supporting the advocacy are equally familiar names Steph Henares, Gino dela Pena, Enzo Pineda, and Rocco Nacino. Even “Tween” stars Joshua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza, too young as they may to be thinking about such a serious matter, nodded to the call and gave their voices in support of the cause.

“We want the public to be aware of the atrocities that are happening to our children and women so that they can help suppress the sex trafficking business,” stressed the said anti-sex trafficking campaign which the young Kapuso personalities echoed in unison.

The celebrity briefing also indicated that “the age range of sex trafficked children is from newborn to 18 years old,” 14 being the average. Victims are said to be forced into “various forms of exploitation including prostitution, pornography, live-sex shows, mail-order brides and sex tourism.”

GMAAC’s initiative to support the cause and the willingness of its top talents to serve as torch-bearers for the campaign is every bit a positive act to save lives and benefit society.

Star Profiles: New Glossy Magazine Featuring GMA-7’s Biggest Celebrities in Glam Shots

Real estate practitioner Rose Basa is lighting up the horizon of the entertainment publishing industry with hand on heart and ever glamorously.

In October, Basa’s company PREF Media in partnership with Mega Publications is launching Star Profiles, a glossy magazine that features GMA-7’s biggest celebrities in their glamour shots. The talents of GMA Artist Center (GMAAC) take center stage in this endeavor.

Star Profiles also features GMA’s most credible news anchors, big stars like Cesar Montano, Manny Pacquiao, Jolina Magdangal, Janno Gibbs, Charice Pempengco, Arnel Pineda, Lani Misalucha, "Bubble Gang" cast, "Pepito Manaloto" cast, GMA corporate heads, and show business’s celebrity production stalwarts Freddie Santos and Francis Libiran, among many others. They will be seen in clothes created by the country’s top designers as captured by Edge of Light’s Xander Angeles in different concept shoots.

But what truly sets apart Star Profiles from other showbiz magazines is its advocacy: Every magazine sold will allot a certain percentage to Called to Rescue, a non-profit organization taking up action against child trafficking. The same organization where GMAAC has pledged its unequivocal support recently, hand in hand with its mission that is dedicated in prevention through education and training of youth of all ages and their parents, to the child until he/she has experienced healing and to be dedicated at continuing in every aspect of awareness.

"I learned about Called to Rescue from Ida [Henares, GMAAC Head]," said Rose. "And when I did, it broke my heart and I knew I needed to do something."

According to reports, a Filipino child is trafficked every 12 minutes that’s why Rose felt that widespread public awareness is needed more than ever to help lower, if not altogether eradicate the staggering incidence.

And what better way to achieve that than by wielding star power? Rose said that every time the magazine is promoted, the stars will talk about Called to Rescue. There will also be an advertisement to be directed by Jun de Leon and shown in theaters that will delve on the mission and goings-on of the organization.

Interestingly, Star Profiles will not have just one cover layout. Rose said that each of the top GMA artists will be featured on the cover for certain number of copies. This almost makes the magazine a collector’s item and one that’s expected to sell well, which in turn, can only benefit Called to Rescue all the more.

Kapuso stars banner Davao City's Kadayawan Festival

GMA Network is set to bring some of its biggest stars - led by no less than Primetime Queen Marian Rivera and the PACMAN himself, Manny Pacquiao! - to the city of Davao this week to join in this year's celebration of the Kadayawan Festival!

First stop on Wednesday evening was the "Hiyas sa Kadayawan" held at the Davao City Recreation Center, which had RNB Prince and Party Pilipinas mainstay Jay-R and beauty queen Ana Maris Igpit as event hosts. Joining them was Kapuso star and beauty queen Krista Kleiner who served as one of the pageant's judges.

On Friday, 10am, at the Cinema 5 of Davao Gaisano Mall, KapusongDabawenyos get the chance to watch some of the topnotch documentaries from the country's most awarded broadcast organization, GMA News and Public Affairs. Bannered by veteran broadcast journalist Maki Pulido, co-host of GMA-7's Reporter's Notebook and co-anchor of GMA News TV's Balita Pilipinas Ngayon, "Kadayawan Festival: Serbisyong Totoo Docu-Fest" will also feature the Isyu Karon documentary of GMA Davao senior correspondent John Paul Seniel.

Also joining in the fun on Friday evening are Tween stars Bea Binene, Louise Delos Reyes, Lexi Fernandez, Elmo Magalona, Alden Richards and Derrick Monasterio. First stop for the Tween Academy stars is the Kapuso Mall Show in SM City Davao. After which, they will head on to the city's first ever "Great Kadayawan Trade Fair Bazaar" at the Convention and Trade Center at 6:30 pm for a Kapuso Meet and Greet with their fans.

Then on Saturday afternoon, 2pm, Davao City welcomes the cast of the epicserye Amaya - lead star Marian Rivera together with co-stars Sid Lucero, Glaiza de Castro, Rochelle Pangilinan, Mikael Daez, Roxanne Barcelo, Dion Ignacio, AJ Dee and Pancho Magno - at the Rizal Park for the "Kapuso Meet and Greet at Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan." The cast is also set to join loyal Amaya fans at the Davao NCCC Mall at 4pm for another equally exciting meet and greet event.

Meanwhile, GMA-7's latest Saturday primetime program titled Manny Many Prizes hosted by pound-for-pound king and Saranggani Representative Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao will give out huge prizes and offer non-stop games and surprises, as well as live performances at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym) on Saturday evening. Gates will open at 5pm. With his new monicker "Ninong," Pacman and the other cast of the show are all set to bring hope and cheers to deserving Dabawenyos in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

On Sunday morning, the stars of Amaya, this time with Sheena Halili, will banner the "Kapuso Pamulak Float Parade."
