Charice's scenes in 'Glee' cut due to rivalry with Lea Michele?

GMA NEWS:

Were the scenes of the little lady with a big voice Charice Pempengco in the hit television series "Glee" cut to avoid upsetting the show's star Lea Michele?

A New York Post report on August 23 quoted a show source as saying, "Charice was signed for a minumun of five episodes and did a press junket with Chord Overstreet. She has a big debut, but things changed and they didn't put her back in. The word is, Lea is the big star, and producers want to keep her happy."

However, a "Glee" spokesman denied rumors of a rivalry.

"While it is true that she [Charice] appeared in fewer episodes last year than we originally anticipated, this was due to her busy schedule and the natural creative process in which some story arcs ... did not materialize as planned," the New York Post report said.

"Lea is a consummate pro who couldn’t be more welcoming of other powerhouse singers on the show, from Kristin Chenoweth to Idina Menzel, who is set to reprise her role as Rachel’s birth mom this fall," the report added.

Charice was first introduced in the pilot episode of Glee's second season last September.

The international singing sensation plays Sunshine Corazon, an exchange student who, like the real Charice, is Filipino, demure, and of course, sings like an angel.

Charice was a hit, both as herself and as Sunshine. In real life, Pinoy audiences went wild over her Glee debut, and in the show, McKinley High's Glee club coach Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) welcomed her to his group, New Directions.

However, the lead singer Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) felt threatened, and a rivalry ensues.

Could the rivalry exist offscreen, as well?

On Twitter, Lea and Charice are friendly.

Last March, Lea even tweeted a warm welcome to Charice, with a photo of the two.

"She is such a sweet girl. I was scared at first of her. When I came back to the show, she immediately said, “Hi Charice! We missed you so much!" Then she took a picture with me," said Charice of Lea in an earlier interview.

Negative reactions

Fans reacted negatively to the rumors about the supposed rivalry between the two actresses.

"That's sooo mean!! >_<" says castergurl on Twitter. "This is a disturbing article about Glee and @officialcharice...that's Show Business!" said secretquark. Sergiobichao observes, "real-life imitates art." People also expressed their views in the article's comment thread. "If Charice was American, she would be the star of the show. She can blow away any singer out there. She's the best singer to come along in quite some time," said John Michael. Anthony Agpaoa disagreed, pointing out that nationality has nothing to do with it. "Glee is notorious for having a hectic schedule. During Glee filming, Charice was in the midst of the David Foster & Friends touring the US and Asia, her solo tour in Japan, numerous holiday shows and appearances including NBC Christmas at Rockefeller, and promoting cross country and internationally her album. IT's a wonder she had time to squeeze in 3 episodes at all for Glee," he said. - VVP, GMA News

Charice's song "Louder" used in teaser plug of the Oprah Winfrey Network

PEP:

The 30-second teaser of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) features a voice that is very familiar to Filipinos.

Charice's upbeat song titled "Louder" was chosen to be the background music of the teaser plug for OWN's shows opening this October.

In OWN's official website, is this description of the teaser: "A whole new season of OWN starts this October, and it's going to be big! Check out this sizzling teaser featuring Oprah, Rosie, Lisa Ling and Will.i.am among the many familiar faces coming to OWN this fall!"

Since joy, feeling, love, creativity, inspiration and family are the themes being tackled by the Oprah Winfrey Network, it seems fitting to choose Charice's song "Louder" with lyrics that go:

"I'm just gonna run right thru the rain / I'm just gonna dance right thru the pain / I'm just gonna feel that rhythm / feel that drum / let my heart beat louder / let my heart speak louder than my head."

ARJOHN THE SINGING FLUTE VENDOR. Last August 6, Charice was able to watch online videos of Arjohn Gilbert, a singing vendor who sells bamboo flutes in Pampanga.

This prompted Charice to post on her Twitter account: "Arjohn, next time I do my own show in the Philippines, I would love for you to come and perform with me."

Arjohn, who hails from Mabalacat, Pampanga, was previously featured in GMA-7 shows such as Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho, Unang Hirit, and Wish Ko Lang in 2009.

However, Charice's manager clarifies that as of today, Arjohn Gilbert is not part of the lineup of the David Foster and Friends concert that will take place on October 25 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Ms. Grace Mendoza says that aside from David Foster, the confirmed guests include Michael Bolton, Ashanti, Russell Watson and Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire fame.

This Asian tour will also feature concerts in Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

New Single Alert: “One Day” by Charice – Written and Produced by Nick Jonas

SPOT:

International singing sensation Charice Pempengco's "One Day" video is out and it shows the teen singer looking every inch like a bonafide pop star, what with a few snappy dance moves up her sleeve and a decidedly fun yet snazzy getup. Written and produced by Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, the single is an upbeat pop ditty that talks about "the road I took to arrive where I am today,” according to Jonas.

Teen.com called the video "adorable" and "inspiring" and one that will make you want to " break into dance in the cafeteria. Or date that super quiet cutie in our art class…" The track is also available on iTunes.

CHARICE MANIA:

NEW VIDEO UPLOADED BY CHARICE: “ONE-DAY” OFFICIAL LYRICS

Only minutes after her new Bruno Mars-written single, “Before It Explodes” became available for download, Charice tweeted that her new song, “One Day” was also going to be released today. @OfficialCharice said, “Another new song!! Produced and written by @NickJonas http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/one-day-single/id433011301?ign-mpt=uo%3D4”.

“One Day” is a pop track with a much more upbeat sound than “Before It Explodes”, and its tempo is actually much faster than Charice’s no. 1 hit, “Pyramid”. This song was co-written and co-produced by Nick Jonas of The Jonas Brothers. The inspiration behind the song was Nick’s dream of being a musician and songwriter, and how he achieved it. Nick said that “This song takes me back to when I was young and talks about the road I took to arrive where I am today.”

Charice has a potential hit in her hands with “One Day” and if paired with an incredible video, there’s no way this song won’t climb the charts. Great strategy by Charice’s team in deciding to saturate this day with new stuff from her. After millions of people watch Glee tonight and got charmed by Charice’s “All By Myself” performance, they’ll definitely be searching for her on the web – and all her new singles are just there waiting to be heard and downloaded.

Charice wraps up album in Japan, holds Manila concert next

After her stint at the recent Teen Choice Awards, Charice is off to Japan to finish and promote her upcoming album.

The Pinay singer’s US fans will have to wait as her album will be released in Asia first, abs-cbnnews.com reported.

“We don’t have a date yet, but it is definitely going to be the fall. It is going to come out in Asia first,” Charice said.

Apart from her album, Charice will also perform for Japan the song “Far As The Sky,” which she dedicates to victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that hit the country. The “Pyramid” hit-maker was tapped to record the theme song of an upcoming Japanese TV series “Bull Doctor.”

Homeward bound

The positive news for Charice’s followers doesn’t end with the new CD. The Pinay belter is scheduled to stage a Manila concert before the year ends.

The announcement coincided with Charice’s invitation for Arjohn Gilbert (the talented Aeta boy from Clark, Pampanga who was discovered on YouTube with his renditions of Justin Bieber’s hit songs) to join her upcoming Manila concert.

“Arjohn, next time I do my own show in the Philippines, I would love for you to come and perform with me,” Charice tweeted Aug. 6, after watching Arjohn’s videos.

The 19-year-old singer also sought the help of a fan to relay her message to Arjohn.

“@iChasterJen definitely this year. bago mag-end [ang concert]. Kaya sana malaman nya [Arjohn] na makakasama sya,” Charice said.

A video recorded by the Chasters (collective name of Charice’s fans) showed Arjohn calling Charice the “most talented singer.”

“Thank you Charice Pempengco [for inviting me] to your show. Maraming-maraming salamat sa iyo, sana makasama kita sa international na album, duet tayo… Ate Charice, sana pagbutihin mo pa ang pagkanta, ikaw lang ang most talented singer [internationally]. Maraming salamat and God bless you,” Arjohn said.

Charice presents award to Demi Lovato at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards

Wearing a brown jacket over a black statement shirt, Charice served as one of the presenters in the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, which took place on the evening of August 7 at the Gibson Ampitheatre, Universal City, California.

This makes Charice the first Filipina to present an award in the history of the TCA, which is now on its 13th year of honoring music, movies, sports, television, and fashion icons as voted on by teens aged 13-19.

Charice told the crowd that night, "Demi Lovato broke through with her role in the TV movie Camp Rock and her own series Sonny with a Chance. And sold out shows across the country and South America."

Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey, who was with Charice on stage, also pointed out, "Unfortunately, her latest tour was cut short when Demi made the brave decision to seek help for her personal issues, including depression and an eating disorder that she has been dealing with most of her life. She then helped found the Love Is Louder Than the Pressure to Be Perfect campaign in conjunction with The Jed Foundation."

Charice added, "She is such an inspiration to all of us. She also wins a Teen Choice Award this year for Song of the Summer for 'Skyscraper.' The Acuvue Inspire award goes to Demi Lovato."

Just like the other winners of the TCA, Demi received a life-size surfboard as her trophy. Her campaign aims to promote mental health and happiness among teenagers and young adults.

Wearing a yellow dress with a short train and black high heels, Demi said she was so nervous that she could hardly speak. She expressed her gratitude for her fans by saying, "I couldn't have made it through the incredible journey that I went through without your help and your strength that got me through it. You guys are what got me through this last year. Love is louder! I love you guys so much. Thank you!"

After the awards night, Charice posted on her Twitter account: "That was freaking awesome! Demi Lovato is sooo nice. :) Thanks TCA! Now off to Japan. :)"
