Pinoy Pride: Penshoppe brings a "taste of New York" in upcoming collections

PEP:

After his success in New York for winning the T-shirt designing contest sponsored by Supima, Robin Tomas will introduce his new designs exclusively through the clothing brand Penshoppe.

Last Monday, August 15, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media outfits were invited to Dusit Hotel Manila, in Makati City, for the formal signing of the contract.

Alex Mendoza, the brand director, said that this collaboration is a way to "bring in New York flavor in their brand."

"Robin and I agreed that Robin will create a capsule collection for Penshoppe, which will bring in his New York flavor in our brand.

"It will also continue his winning design that he had for the Supima, Bloomingdale competition."

In addition, Robin said that this is his way of "showcasing" the style which started his success in New York.

"I think it's an exciting collaboration to be able to showcase specially that winning T-shirt that I had in Bloomingdale for the Filipino market.

"With Penshoppe, I think it's a great way to offer the design, and I'll be using this winning design that's in New York as the starting point of the collection of T-shirts.

"But we'll be doing more, like evolve from the T-shirts, and then it will be offered to both men and women.

"So, it's gonna be fun, edgy, comfortable, exciting collections."

WORKING TOGETHER. The friendship that Alex and Robin started many years ago became a way for this collaboration to happen.

How did the idea really come about?

"Well, because we're really in touch because we've been really known each other for a long time. We're so happy of what he did in the Supima competition, and he wanted to bring it in the Philippines," said Alex.

Pinoy Pride: Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry wear Furne One's glamorous creations

MB:

Dubai-based Filipino fashion designer Furne One of Amato Haute Couture made waves in the international fashion scene anew when his creations were recently worn by top female pop performers Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry.

According to posts on Amato Couture’s Facebook page on June 13, Lopez wore a sparkly short dress by Amato while performing her hits “On the Floor” and “I’m Into You” during the Capital FM Summertime Ball 2011. According to the official website of Capital FM – dubbed as "the UK’s #1 hit music station” – the annual music fest was held on June 12 at London’s famed Wembley Stadium.

On the other hand, Perry has, on numerous occasions, wore colorful Amato creations in her performances during her “California Dreams Tour 2011,” which began in February this year and will run until November. The tour covers countries in Europe, Australasia, Asia, and the North and South America.

Perry was also seen in an Amato mini dress when she presented an award in Australia’s 2011 TV Week Logie Awards held on May 1.

According to Amato’s official website, One’s brand “caters exclusively to an elite Arab clientele.” But despite this exclusive clientele, Hollywood and equally fashionable circles in Europe obviously can't ignore One's amazing creations.

More from the website, the designer credits his popularity across the international fashion scene to supermodel and “Germany’s Next Top Model” host Heidi Klum. This is after Klum first invited him in 2009 to create the gowns worn by the 18 finalists in one of the show’s episodes, garnering One “assignments from well-known European celebrities” that had him working in Europe for some time.

This year, One was once again invited to design for “Germany’s Next Top Model,” as seen in photos posted also on June 13 on Amato’s Facebook page.

Perhaps One’s most talked-about show locally was the "First of One—A Fashion Collection by Furne One" in October last year where, according to a report posted on Spot.ph in the same month, a number of models slipped as they walked on a slippery runway. It was reportedly even called by some of the show’s guests as the “fall” collection. Nevertheless, the show was praised by personalities such as Tim Yap and Rajo Laurel.

First Annual Philippine Fashion Ball is honored as fashion industry's best

PEP:

If there was an award for the most fashionable evening of the year, then August 15, 2011 would have won it.

All the Who's Who in the Philippine fashion industry were dressed to the nines in black and white at the Manila Peninsula Hotel's Rigodon Ballroom for the First Annual Philippine Fashion Ball.

Organized by Robby Carmona of SAGA events, fashion stylist Noel Manapat and PR maven Keren Pascual, it was an evening that honored the industry's movers and shakers in grand style.

The awarding ceremony was hosted by top designer Rajo Laurel and social butterfly Tessa Prieto-Valdez.

The event recognized the talents who helped spark a revolution that inspired more people, especially the younger generation, to become engrossed with fashion and all its aspects.

Fashion designer Inno Sotto, photographer Jun de Leon, supermodel Marina Benipayo, makeup artist Patrick Rosas, hairstylist Henri Calayag and fashion director Jackie Aquino were among the men and women lauded for their major contribution to the industry.

Umagang Kay Ganda host Phoemela Barranda, who is the current president of the Professional Models of the Philippines Association (PMAP), was also presented to the audience along with her lovely predecessors, which included Tweetie de Leon-Gonzales, Apples Aberin and Rissa Mananquil.

Runway Philippines president and Philippine Fashion Week founder Joey Espino and internationally acclaimed Filipina designer Josie Natori were honored with the Lifetime Achievement awards.

Actress Gretchen Barretto, who jumpstarted her showbiz career through modeling back when she was 12 years old, came to the event garbed in a simple black dress by Inno Sotto.

She served as one of the award presenters, as well as Piolo Pascual, Enchong Dee, Joseph Marco, David Chua and Venus Raj.

Other showbiz celebrities in attendance were Bianca Gonzalez, Raymond Gutierrez, Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho.

The event is also best remembered as the night Anne Curtis stepped out in her controversial Rajo Laurel dress, which became the center of social networking buzz in the past week.

Is Anne Curtis wearing an underwear on her “Black Widow" black cut-out see-through dress?

GMA NEWS:

Anne Curtis' confirmed via her twitter account that she is wearing a C String

Masaya si Rajo dahil marami ang pumuri sa kanyang obra at naging usap-usap pa kahit sa Internet.

“It became a viral sensation.

-- FRJimenez, GMA News
