Box-Office Report - Week of 16 September 2011


The week of September 16 saw the release of the highly anticipated thriller "Drive", starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan and of Disney's 3D converted re-releases of "The Lion King". Among the lesser hyped releases were "Straw Dogs" a remake of a 1971 Sam Peckinpah movie and "I Don't Know How She Does It", a Sarah Jessica Parker romantic comedy. Box-Office Report - Week of 9 September 2011


Now that the summer season is over, competition at the box-office begins to slow down. One major contender was expected to take it all this week-end, Steven Soderbergh's virus oubreak thriller, "Contagion". Box-Office Report - Week of 2 September 2011









It was yet another boring week-end at the box-office, with very little of the total earnings coming from new releases. "Apollo 18", "Shark Night 3D" and "The Debt" opened with the hope of benefitting from the lack of major releases. Was the timing correct, or did they fail to attract audiences ?

Box-Office Report - Week of 26 August, 2011









The hurricane wreaked havoc at the box-office too, as profits went down drastically compared to last week. Three new movies opened to bad weather : the weird comedy "Our Idiot Brother", the creepy horror "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" and the ass-kicking-hot-lady action flick "Colombiana". Box-Office Report - Week of 19 August 2011









The week of August 19, 2011, was a week dominated by the loud publicity machine of two remakes ... well, actually a remake and a reboot, "Fright Night" and "Conan the Barbarian" respectively. "One Day", a bittersweet drama starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, and "Spy Kids 4D" also opened this week. Did any of these movies break any box-office records ? Read on to find out.

Box-Office Report - Week of 12 August 2011









This week, four new movies fought hard to earn the top spot at the box-office. A horror gore-fest ("Final Destination 5"), a period piece about racism ("The Help"), a lowbrow slacker action comedy  ("30 Minutes or Less") and a concert documentary ("Glee: The 3D Concert Movie"). Box-Office Report - Week of 22 July, 2011


Since last week's spectacular opening, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" has taken it down a notch, dropping down to second place, but is still doing spectacular business. Box-Office Report - Week of 15 July, 2011


Well, everyone probably saw this coming. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" leads the box-office this week. Not only that, it has also broken the records for best single day and week-end opening. Since no other big new releases opened this week and "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is already losing traction, Harry and the gang had plenty of room to work with. Box-Office Report - Week of 8 July 2011


For a second consecutive week, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is at the top of the box-office with solid week-end and overall earnings. Also, this week, two other movies opened in the top 10, hoping to pull in solid amounts of cash, "Horrible Bosses" and "Zookeeper", one rated R and boasting a dream-team of actors : Jason Bateman, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Fox, and the other rated PG-13, produced by Adam Sandler and starring Kevin James. Box-Office Report - Week of 1 July 2011


There wasn't much room for competition with the release of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". The sequel came into theaters on the 29th of June and pretty much rocked the house. New releases like "Larry Crowne" and "Monte Carlo" stood no chance against Michael Bay's mechanized behemoth. The movies that exited the top 10 since last week are : "The Hangover Part II", "X-Men: First Class" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". Here is the top 10 for the week of July 1st.
