Follow Friday - 9/2/11

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read

The question of the week is:

If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? Why and to what?
 MOCKINGJAY BY SUZANNE COLLINS

*sigh* Where do I begin? This last book in this amazing series really pissed me off. I mean, like I-don't-want-to-talk-about-it-ever-again kind of angry. With the end of a trilogy, I was hoping for some redemption, something kickass where I could do a fist pump and yell "Go Katniss!".  It wasn't the case.

The ending wasn't satisfying for me at all. It infuriated me. All these unnecessary deaths killed me to read. But what really annoyed me was how things were left off with Gale. Throughout the series and in Mockingjay, Gale is Katniss's best friend who is always by her side. Always.

To have things end the way they did with him just leaving the district seemed so out of character I couldn't believe it. It wasn't the Gale we knew.

The funny thing is, my girl Suzanne LOVES the ending! Between us, we've had some heated discussions over it. To some, the ending was perfect. But for me, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Opinions differ and although we both loved this series, there were parts that I wished never happened at all.

OK, rant over. What ending of a book or series would you change? PLEASE MARK SPOILERS!!!

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read

The question of the week is:

In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question "comes out of the closet" and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real?

I wish shifters would come out of the closet for real!  That would be so cool!  And of course I'd go find my own shifter to mark me as his life mate!  You know who else would be hot?  Berserkers!!!!!!

This weeks question:

“Let’s talk crazy book titles! Highlight one or two (or as many as you like!) titles in your personal collection that have the most interesting titles! If you can’t find any, feel free to find one on the internet!”

I actually like the titles for the Hollows series by Kim Harrison.  They all have a Clint Eastwood movies theme.  "Dead Witch Walking" "The Good, The Bad and the Undead" "Every Which Way But Dead" etc...

The reason for the titles ... from the author:
Why the Clint titles?  There is a reason.  I've always liked the characters that Clint Eastwood has played, especially the westerns where the guy comes in off the plain, able to solve the town's problems with a bully, but not all that eager to, but after some persuasion, he does.  Not only does he take care of business, but he does it in a just, not necessarily legal way.  I sort of see Rachel like that, if Clint had a pixy instead of a gun, and a convertible instead of a horse.  Okay, maybe they aren't that much alike, but the feeling is there.  But a more bland aspect is that it was a marketing decision to help make the books more recognizable.

The question of the week is:

Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?

Get this! I didn't read as a teen. I was one of those kids who thought I was too cool for school. It wasn't until a few years ago that I started reading again. I'm 22 now, which puts me in an odd spot. Naturally, Twilight sparked an interest, but it was actually Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy that got me going to the libraries and bookstores. Since then, I've notice a slighty (okay, maybe not so slightly) smuttier preference in books. Hey, I have a pulse. Sue me.

“What is the one ARC you would love to get your hands on right now?”

Too many to list here!!!  But if I had to mention a few... I would love to get my hands on the next Kim Harrison's "A Perfect Blood" (The Hollows # 10) and the next Psy-Changeling book (which I don't think even has a name yet) and of course LOVER REBORN by J.R. Ward.  Just to name a few.

The question of the week is:

"Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?)."
Lets say the book that first interested me in reading was "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen.  I loved that book, I must've read it at least 5 times when I was young.  However, the book (or series) that turned me into a reading fanatic again was the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.  After I found those books I never looked back and had to devour everything.  However to this day, Pride and Prejudice has and always will have a special place in my heart, even though I haven't read it recently.

What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?
For me, it's probably steampunk. I've only read one but it was more YA (Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare) and while I loved that book, I've tried other steampunks and just can't get into them. Which is quite ironic since I do love a good historical romance. It's just some weird thing where I can't seem to finish a steampunk book (e.g. Brooks's The Iron Duke). I heard great things about it, just couldn't seem to finish it!

The question of the week is:

Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?

JUST THREE?!?  Alright, alright...I'll have to say Kresley Cole (Immortals After Dark), J.R. Ward (Black Dagger Brotherhood), and probably Pamela Clare (I-Team). I picked Kresley because she has a great sense of humor and I love her books! I choose J.R. Ward because duh, who wouldn't! I want to be a shellan !! And lastly, Pamela Clare because from the interactions I've had with her so far, she's been so nice and so down to earth! I just love how gracious she is with her fans. Plus, we can drool over Jed Hill together!

How/Where do you get your books? Do you buy them or go to the library? Is there a certain website you use like paperbackswap?

Our answer: I'm a frequent buyer, which is a good thing for my book collection but a bad thing for my bank account! I usually buy from Book Depository or from Chapters/Indigo. If I'm starting out a new series and not sure if I'll like it, I grab the ebook first or hit the library stacks.

The question of the week is:

What do I do when I are not reading?

We blog! We've only been blogging for about two months now and keeping up a blog is a lot of work! But of course, it's loads of fun and we enjoy all of it! Kudos to all the other bloggers/reviewers out there who do amazing jobs for the books they love!

The question of the week is:

"Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?"

This is actually an easy question.  I don't even know how I actually finished it, I guess I couldn't wrap my brain around the fact that Anne Rice had done such a bad job in my opinion.  But the choice for me is "The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty" by A.N. Roquelaure (a.k.a. Anne Rice)

"What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?"

Our answer:  It really takes a lot for me to give up on a book.  Either the characters have to be beyond irritating or the storyline boring to the point that I would rather pull my nails out!  Even so, I can probably think of a handful of books I haven't finished, even if it takes me a while.

The question of the week is:

"ACK! Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation."

This question is best answered by the following video from Season 2 of True Blood.  Yes!  I pick Eric/Alexander Skarsgard for this, and I would do.... WHAT SHE DID!  BITE ME!!!!!

When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?

Our answer:  I've always read at one point or another, and gone through times where I read a lot and then stopped, and read a lot of different genres and books.  However I started back up, and haven't looked back, 3 years ago.  From then on it has truly become an important part of my daily life.  I couldn't picture a day without reading now!

The question of the week is:

Q. In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

To be honest, I don't read many fae stories because they don't hold my interest as much as stories with werewolves and vampires. But Maggie Stiefvater's Books of Faerie series with Lament and Ballad were really great YA fae books. Also, Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series are good too!

“How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) Pile?”

Our answer:  Do we really have to say??? *Looks from side to side* My TBR pile is sitting at a whopping 1,900 books.  BUT in my defense, that's EVERY book I've ever considered that I want to read (including short stories and upcoming releases).  Is that really bad?  LOL  And if you meant what I have NOW that I need to read.... That's definitely in the 100s.

The question of the week is:

"Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?"

I read a lot of different things and my favorites have changed throughout the years, but for a while now it has been PARANORMAL ROMANCE.  And the nail in that coffin was The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward.  I was completely sold on the books, the characters, the story, the world, yes, even her special words.

The question of the week is:

"The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says "you and your favorite character (from a book of course) can switch places!" Who are you going to switch with?"

Do we have to pick just one!?!?!?!  Argghhhhh That's such a difficult question to answer.  Because I'm excited about the last book coming out this month, I want to switch places with Annika from the ACRO series by Sydney Croft because she's badass, can shock people (and I mean electrical shocks not awe!), and she has CREED!!!!  And, yes, this is the Kiss of Snow week, it's still fresh in my mind, so I'm definitely switching places with Sienna just so I can get a piece of Hawke!  He won't even want to switch back!! ;)

The question of the week is:

"What are you doing to prepare for an upcoming zombie apocalypse and/or the return of Mel Gibson to the silver screen? (Both of which could be terrifying.)"

Ha!  I think I would be scared of the return of Mel Gibson to the silver screen!!!  He's embarrassed himself enough as it, give it a rest!  Even though I used to love him (way back in the day, you know Braveheart, What Women Want). There's no preparation for that... just hope for the best?

The zombies on the other hand.... Since I don't necessarily like to read zombie books or watch zombie movies I will have no material to reference for my protection!!!  How do you kill one anyway?  Yeah, I better start doing some research and some training.  Kickboxing anyone?

"Do you buy or swap books online, if so whats your favorite place?"

I don't usually use swap sites, although I've started listing some of the books I don't want to keep anymore on the GoodReads swap section.  However, I do buy books online.  It's my preferred method of shopping for books!  The "real books" I buy are usually from Amazon.  I buy on occassion Kindle books as I have an app in my tablet to read them.  I also use Diesel EbooksBooks on Board, and Fictionwise for ebooks and Audible and sometimes iTunes for audiobooks.  And does anyone know of a swap site for Canada or UK???

"What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked?  Which have you disliked?"

Our answer:  I think the Harry Potter movies have been my favorite book to movie adaptation in general.  The movies do a great job at following the storyline, and bringing the books ALIVE.  WORST?  I recently read and watched "Eat, Pray, Love" and that was a pretty bad adaptation in my opinion.  I think for people that didn't read the book they might've liked the movie, but I did not like it.  The story got changed and in a way that I didn't think was necessary.

The question of the week is:

"How many books do you read in a week? And in what format do you read them, or listen to them?"

Usually about a book every other day.  But in general I read two books at a time.  I prefer ebooks (e-readers are wonderful) and one of my two books is usually an audiobook.  I have slowly gotten away from reading paperbacks and hardcovers as they are not as convenient to take around with you.  So I always have my ipod with me with a few books loaded, and my Samsung Galaxy Tablet with a few books loaded.  Never leave home without them!  You never know when a reading moment will pop up!
