All E.O.I. leather products are hand-crafted and vegetable tanned by Japanese artisans. Vegetable tanning is an ancient leather tanning process that uses tannin from tree bark and takes time and skilled artisanship. The painstaking process produces durable, flexible leather with unique texture and characteristics that develop further with use.

Rocky Mountain Featherbed was first established along the mountain ski slopes of Jackson, Wyoming in the 1960's and was widely popular until it eventually disappeared in the 1980's. In 2005, Rocky Mountain Featherbed was resurrected in Japan and continue to produce the authentic outerwear styles which made them popular in the USA during the 60's. The E.O.I. x Rocky Mountain Featherbed collaboration down vest features E.O.I.'s water-proof cowhide leather and RMF's "Christy" model design.

Mr. Olive's process is not a coating, rather the E.O.I. water-proof cowhide uses a special fluoride process creating a semi-permanent water proof effect which prevents water absorption rate by 80%. The leather can be worn on a rainy day and it is quick to dry. No maintenance required.

RMF's "Christy" down vest design features the leather yoke around the shoulders, the shearling collar, and a slim silhouette all used to retain body heat and reduce downdraft.

We often consider leather delicate, because exposure to water may result in shrinkage, hardening, stain, and even fungus. Mr. Olive created next generation leather that prevents these problems by reducing the water absorption rate by 80%. Mr. Olive's process is not typical surface water repelling coating, which will get easily scraped off. The special fluoride process creates semi-permanent water proof effect. If the leather gets damage, its surface as well as the leather's backside would remain water proof. Also, this process allows natural leather look and color to remain intact. You can wear the leather on rainy days, and it is quick to dry. You can even wash it (no tumble dry, please). No maintenance necessary.

The process takes time, skilled artisanship, and thus costs more compared to mass-production chemical tanning. The vegetable tanning produces durable, flexible leather with unique texture and characteristics that further develop with use and time. The natural leather feel, texture, and characteristics cannot be replicated through chemical tanning.

Interior lining uses a double gauze thick 100% cotton with a floral pattern that is custom made for Mr. Olive. This is the same material used for the pocket bags for Mr. Olive denim. It is durable and made to last. Large opening, interior pocket.

Under the main exterior flap exposes the interior which is secured by a strap and solid brass hook in satin finish. The hook is on a swivel and easy to operate.
