Coming Soon! Naked & Famous 13.75oz Left Hand Twill Denim

In about 2 weeks, our next shipment from Naked & Famous will arrive which will include the 2011 fall release of their Left Hand Twill denims. Left hand twill, also known as "s twill", is a weave in which the grain line runs from the top-left hand corner of the fabric to the bottom right which is the opposite of right hand twill. It was originally used by Lee denim as its basic denim and now used in many premium denim companies such as 45rpm, Lee Japan, Kicking Mule Workshop, and now Naked & Famous. Left hand twill tends to wear down softer than right hand twill and thus a softer hand feel after washing. Left hand twill will also have different wear patterns as the fabric can emphasize streakiness or vertical fading.

Brandon from Naked & Famous is wearing the Naked & Famous Left Hand Twill Skinny Guy which has about 4.5 months of wear without washing. We will stock the LHT in both skinny guy and weird guy fits. Here are few more photos to look forward to the upcoming release.

Denim Fades: Naked & Famous "Skinny Guy" Broken-Twill 13oz Raw Selvedge Denim

This is a great example of the evolution of raw denim and how it fades and develops holes and abrasions from wear and tear. The photographed denim here is the Naked & Famous "skinny guy" broken-twill 13oz raw selvedge. This pair was worn by Brandon, owner of N&F, for 1 full year without washing. After one year of everyday wear, the denim was machine washed in cold water inside-out and hung to dry. Beautiful fades! Enjoy the rest of the photos.

Denim Fades: Fashion Meets Science

One of our customers forwarded an interesting article that we wanted to share. University of Alberta student Josh Le wore the same pair of Nudie raw denim daily for nearly 15 months. Before finally washing, with the assistance of his professor Le tested the denim for bacteria. Basically after 15 months, there was nothing wrong in terms of bacteria or germs. Denim Fades + Repair Work: Jean Shop Rockers Raw Selvedge Denim

Jean Shop denim has always been on our radar and we were happy to see this denim come to us for some repair work. Our customer and friend Ben from Washington DC recently sent us his Jean Shop Rockers for a hem and repair. Ben's denim has seen some nice wear and we are happy to show his accomplishments. Ben has been wearing this denim for 6 months and washed approximately 15 times.

The Jean Shop Rocker uses a 14oz right hand twill Japanese selvedge denim and has a minimalist design. For only wearing for 6 months, this denim has faded quite nicely.

Nice fades and creasing behind the knees.

As mentioned previously, Ben sent us denim to some repair where we reinforced the crotch area where the fabric has worn through.

For this repair, we used a fleece inter-facing and went over with a lock-stitch machine using a matching thread of the current indigo color.

The inter-facing is soft, comfortable and holds up well to washing and further wear.

Close up of the fleece inter-facing.

Jean Shop signature orange selvedge. We also chainstitch hemmed this denim per Ben's request.
Back pocket fades showing the reiforced pima lining. Leather patch.
Jean Shop is located in NYC and features Japanese selvedge denims which are all made in the USA. Their signature orange selvedge and contrast stitching make them readily identifiable to the denim connoisseur. Jean Shop offers nice fits and a quality denim for the price and we plan to stock them in the very near future. Stay tuned!

Denim Fades + Repair Work: Sugar Cane SEXSC06 Limited Edition Raw Selvedge Denim

Back in 2008, we carried a limited edition denim by Sugar Cane, the SEXSC06 raw selvedge. Our friend and customer Ben from Washington DC recently sent us his SEXSC06 to do some of our in house repair work. The denim has such beautiful fades, that we could not resist to show it off. Ben has worn this denim for 18 months with 5 washes and 3 hot soaks. Nice fades Ben!

The fabric is a 13oz slack weave with a 50/50 cotton and sugar cane fiber blend and as you can see produced some beautiful fades with extensive wear.
As I mentioned before, Ben sent us the denim to do some of our in house repair work. We never try to make the denim look new, but rather lived in. On this denim we rebuilt the yolk and reinforced the crotch.
For the crotch repair, we used a fleece inter-facing and went over with a lock-stitch machine to reinforce the area where the denim fabric had worn through from wear. The inter-facing is soft, comfortable and will hold up well to washes and further wear. We try to use thread matching the current indigo color of the surface.
We also reconstructed the yolk by going over the area with a lock-stitch machine and a Union Special.
We used the fleece inter-facing along the interior of the yolk.
