When I signed up for the ECRW Conference this October, I was automatically added to a yahoo group with other participants. At first, I thought it was sort of odd...getting all these email conversations between writers, some published, some not. But then I started paying more attention to them...
And they're fabulous! I've been having so much fun getting to know some of these women. Some are published, some are not, but there is a strong bond between everyone, because everyone is viewed as equals, even between the published and unpublished! I've already got phone numbers of "friend" to hook up with when I get to Bellevue, and I've had such fun scouring their blogs and websites.
The best part is...there is a really strong sense of humility amongst these writers. The ones who want to get published are working hard at their craft without getting ahead of themselves, and the published writers are humble without being remotely pretentious! It has been a real breath of fresh air to realize that there are other writers out there who are as aware as I am that their careers could take off, or stay flat, and that their careers are blessings to be thankful for, instead of entitlements. It's been really cool.
Ok, enough rambling. Costco calls. And then Target. And then the treadmill. And then my writing.......argh. I want to skip everything else and go straight to writing.
