Today's Houseguest: Patricia Eimer!

Oh snap! Today's houseguest is especially fantabulous!

No....that's not who it is....

No, not him either...(I WISH)

None other than Patricia Eimer, author of the hilariously funny and deliciously sexy new book: Luck of the Devil, which is available now from Entangled Publishing!

Okay, tongue-in-cheek-fans, here's the skinny: This book is great. I laughed out loud. More than a handful of times. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good laugh, a bit-o-sexiness, and (surprisingly, enough) a book that will make you look at the roles of Satan, Satan's workers, and Satan's family in a completely different way. That little detail was a fun little treat that I was completely surprised by. Just a funny, quirky perspective on an age old concept.

Hilarious.

Here is the official blurb:

"Being the youngest daughter of the Devil isn't all it s cracked up to be. The days of teenage rebellion and vows of chastity made just to tick off her father are over, and now all Faith Bettincourt wants is a nice, quiet life.

Unfortunately, thanks to the unexpected arrival of her demonically-downsized sister, a ditzy succubus roommate, and dear old Dad himself, Faith s plans for a relaxing vacation spent watching reruns go up in flames.

Now it's all Faith can do to keep the family reunion from Hell (literally) under wraps, and the angelically-inclined hottie across the hall from realizing there's something weird about his neighbor. And, thankfully, it's working.

Until an angelic stalker shows up in a bid to steal her powers and take over the world. Forget watching reruns. With the way things are going, Faith will need the luck of the Devil just to survive until Monday."

Be sure to read all about Ms. Eimer, and pay attention. There will be an awesome give away at the end, and believe me, you don't want to miss it! And now, without further delay, Patricia Eimer's interview:

Interview with Patricia Eimer
Author of Luck of the Devil, available now from Entangled Publishing

BM: Welcome, Patricia! It’s really cool to have you here today. First off, tell my tongue-in-cheek fans about your hilarious book, Luck of the Devil, and what inspired you to write it…

PE: Luck is the story of the Devil’s youngest daughter, Faith, as she tries to maneuver the mortal world and not draw any unwanted attention to herself. Which is working pretty well until her sister shows up and brings the whole family along with her. And that’s when all hell breaks loose.

What actually inspired me to write it was a woman in the frozen food aisle having a minor nervous break down at 3 am because she’d had family show up unexpectedly and had no idea what to do. Faith Bettincourt crawled in my brain that night and whispered “you think she’s got it bad? Let me tell you what my family’s like.”

BM: I freaking love it when characters get into your head and write their own stories! Luck of the Devil was published by Entangled Publishing. Why don’t you tell all of the aspiring writers out there about the day you got “the call”.

PE: My call was actually sort of a multiple call process. I’d worked with Liz Pelletier at Savvy Author’s Editpalooza this past January and she emailed me in early March, right after the announcement had been made that Entangled was going into business, and requested that I send Heather Howland a query letter and a full version of Luck. Then two weeks later Liz sent me a email that said essentially “call me, we want to buy”. So I excused myself from the staff meeting I was in and called Liz to find out that Entangled was buying Luck and was curious about potentially turning it into a series. And at that point I had to ask her to repeat herself because my mind had just completely broken for a second and I thought I heard her say the word “series”. Once she’d confirmed I wasn’t a lunatic who was imagining the whole call it’s all been sort of dream like since. I keep expecting to wake up and find out that none of this is real. And every day I don’t wake up is just a bonus.

BM: I completely relate to that feeling. Being a published author now is so surreal. Patricia, what prompts you to write romance, and what are some of your favorite romance novels out there?

PE: I write what I love to read and in reality what I love to see in the world. I truly believe that what we write should mirror what we want to see in the lives around us (not vampires and demons of course they’re a medium to tell a story) and around me I want to see people who are happy and where love really does conquer all. So that’s what I write.

Some of my favorite rom cons right now would be The What If Guy of course. Then anything by MaryJanice Davidson, Katie MacAlister, Nicole Peeler, and I’ve really been glutting myself on YA right now because I think there are some amazing writers out there in YA romance who are truly telling some amazing stories that just didn’t exist *ahem, cough, ahem* years ago before dirt was invented and when I was still a teenager. The one I’m devouring right now is My Life in the Fat Lane by Cherie Bennett.

BM: I was recently turned on to YA as well. It was a genre I generally ignored until recently. Very cool. What do you think the key is to a successful romance novel? Lots of sexiness? A studly hero? Plenty of angst? Shed some light on this for us!

PE: I think a great romance novel needs a strong, relatable heroine more than anything else. Yeah, a hot guy and lots of loving is great and what writer doesn’t love to send them pretty boys through the wringer? But in the end I still think it’s a strong woman who grows noticeably from her experiences that you can relate to that makes a story readable.

BM: Where do you see your career in another five years?

PE: Hopefully still publishing books with Entangled and putting up new bookshelves to house all my author’s copies of books I’ve written. Maybe if I’m lucky the bookshelves will be somewhere warm with a view of the water. I’ve heard the Bahamas are a nice place to write.

BM: Make sure you have a guest room, and stock up in cheese, because I'll be stopping in. Okay, first off…I really enjoyed reading Luck of the Devil. It’s not every day that I come across a book with enough sexiness AND hysterical sarcasm. Well done, my friend. Can you tell us what the most difficult scene to write in Luck of the Devil was, and how you got through it? (***P.S. This question may contain SPOILERS, so if you haven’t read Luck of the Devil yet, and I strongly recommend that you do, close your eyes!***)

PE: The sex scenes were horrible for me to write. And they actually weren’t in the first draft of the book. My poor editor Libby had to literally hold my hand through the whole thing and deal with my panicking the whole time. It’s the only time in my life that I’ve ever drank and written at the same time. Usually I’m the type that won’t write if I’ve had a drink at all but my husband laughed about having to get me liquored up to write sex scenes.  Which caused more than a few laughs in my house. Two kids and I still get embarrassed about naked jiggly bits.

BM: Okay, you just made me spit out my pop. I told you guys she was hilarious. I wasn't kidding! Tell us about your current WIP. What can we expect next from you, and what tid bits can you share?

PE: Well my second book in the Speak of the Devil series – Devil May Care -- is currently with the editors at Entangled Publishing and I have a tentative release date of May 2012. Without giving you any real spoilers let’s just say I’ve really upped the stakes for Matt and Faith, especially Faith. And to give you a special Brooke Moss only hint – Brooke here is the person who gave me the idea for one of the biggest plot twists in Devil May Care. What happens when you get a second chance at a door you thought was closed?

BM: Squeeeeee!

PE: After that I’m actually working on a contemporary non-paranormal romance that’s tentatively titled Baking for Bridezilla which I like to think of as Top Chef meets Sweet Home Alabama  with Simon Cowell, a hunky Irish soap star, and that age old question “just how far away from home can you really run before you have to come back and face what you left behind?” But when I say I’m working on that I mean that’s actually in rough draft form so bad that my critique partners are yelling about my inability to choose the right form of there/their/and they’re.

BM: Holy hannah, those sound freakin' fabulous! Okay, enough of the serious stuff…my tongue-in-cheek-fans like to have a good laugh now and then…so here goes nothing: Who is your favorite hero from a romance novel (any romance novel) and why does he float your boat?

PE: Jamie Fraser from the Outlander Series. You never forget your first romance hero after all and Jamie was my first guilty, read the book inside my algebra text book, romance novel pleasure.

BM: If you could live anywhere in the world, besides where you’re currently living, where would it be, and why?

PE: Somewhere warm. Right now that’s my only qualification for a place. Possibly Santa Fe New Mexico or Tuscany. I love both places so it’s too hard to choose. So let’s go with Santa Fe for six months a year and then Tuscany the other half.

BM: Are you a cat or dog person?

PE: I’ve had both but I tend to prefer cats. They’re less needy. Don’t tell my dogs that though. They’re very sensitive on the subject, especially since they’re letting me use their office to write in.

BM: My dog lives in my office, too! Favorite snack to munch while writing your freakishly awesome books?

PE: Jolly Ranchers. I don’t tend to eat when I write. I go on huge writing jags where I’ll put on noise cancelling headphones and write for hours without a  break and then I’ll stop, gorge on anything in sight (usually chocolate is my go to), and go back to the grindstone. My darling hubby calls it the ‘Masochist Method of Romance Novel Writing’.

BM: Favorite holiday, and why?

PE: Christmas. Because once you get away from the craziness of the malls and helicopter moms and kids freaking out for the latest toy, it’s the one time of year that people just all sort of try to be happy. And they try to go out of their way to be nice to each other. Besides, it’s a holiday that’s marked by lots of food and cookies. Who doesn’t get into that?

BM: Amen, sista. Tell us what male movie star makes you squirmy…

PE: Richard Armitage. If you haven’t seen – go, see, be squirmy with me. Trust me, he’s got squirminess to spare.

BM: Here's a taste of what she means, folks:

BM: If they made a movie of Luck of the Devil, who would play the main characters?

PE: Faith – Katie Perry as a blonde
Hope – Gwyneth Paltrow (BM: I can TOTALLY see this!!!)
Matt – Daniel Radcliffe
Tolliver – Harry Lloyd
The Devil – Tom Selleck (BM: Oh, I loves me some Tom Selleck...makes that couch scene so much more enjoyable. *Sigh*)
Roisin – Goldie Hawn

BM: And last, but never least, what is your favorite kind of cheese? (And if you say you’re lactose intolerant, beware of a major backlash from my peeps…we be cheese folks around here.) J

PE: Smoked Gouda. Or Brie with raspberries. Oooh. Now I’m hungry. We’re done right? Cause I’ve got a wheel of Brie with my name on it.

BM: You are a girl after my own heart. Sincerely.
