Basketball player James Yap is in no hurry to find a new love.
“Hindi pa (ako) ready,” he quipped when asked if he’s courting a new girl.
“Kasi pumunta ako dito sa Manila 2000 and then nagka-girlfriend ako five years (after), tapos nag-asawa ako five years uli so ngayon ‘yung time na single ako so medyo mahirap muna. So relax-relax muna,” he said during the birthday party of Regal matriarch Lily Monteverde held at the Imperial Palace, Aug. 19.
Aside from Yap, who came with his manager Dondon Monteverde, celebrities who took time to drop by to greet the Regal producer were senators Bong Revilla, Antonio Trillanes, Dick Gordon, Paulo Avelino, Boots Anson Roa, Lovi Poe, Ricky Davao, Toni Gonzaga, Paul Soriano, Dennis Trillo, Martin Escudero, Audie Gemora.
When Nora Aunor arrived with German Moreno, Mother Lily personally met the superstar at the entrance of the mezzanine floor where the
party was being held.
Yap clammed up when asked if he was traumatized by his failed marriage.
“Kung na-trauma? Hirap, eh, kasi minahal ko naman. Gano’n lang talaga ang buhay,” he said.
But when asked if he’s dating, he replied, “Ba’t gusto n’yo akong mag-date kaagad?”
Then he said in jest, “Oo meron....anak ko.”
Turning serious, he said that as of now, “wala pa.”
“Sabihin ko sa inyo ‘pag meron,” he said explaining that he can’t exactly tell whether his next girlfriend will be from show business or not.
“Hindi natin alam, hindi natin mapipili, eh. Malay mo taga-showbiz.”
If ever, he does not feel obligated to share the identity of his next girlfriend with his ex-wife, saying, “Wala na si Kris do’n.”
In the interview, Yap seems to have feigned surprise when asked about his reaction to Gab Valenciano’s pronouncement that he’s dating Isabel Oli, who was once romantically linked to him.
“Ha? Talaga? ‘Di ko alam. Mabait naman si Isabel, eh. Kaibigan ko ‘yon,” he said.
“Suwerte si Gab kasi mabait si Isabel. Kaibigan ko ‘yon. Sobrang bait na babae,” he added.
With the issue between him and Isabel, Yap did not distance himself from the actress.
“Hindi naman kasi alam naman namin na kaibigan ko siya. Wala akong masasabi kay Isabel kundi mabait na babae.”
As for another lady being linked to him, Yap once again stressed that he and singer Marie Digby are just friends.
“Lumalabas kami as a group. Kaibigan ko si Marie.”
He’s not surprised with the rumor since “gano’n naman talaga ‘pag single, ‘di ba?”
Yap refused to make a reaction on Digby’s guesting on Aquino’s morning show “Kris TV.”
“Hindi ko napanood ‘yon kasi wala ako dito, eh.”
With a failed crack at marriage, the ballplayer learned a lesson or two about relationships.
“Kailangan talaga magkasundo and kung meron akong magiging asawa siyempre kailangan talaga team kayo. Kumbaga, kung ano ‘yung desisyon kailangang ipaalam sa ano. ‘Yon na ‘yon. Natuto na ‘ko.”
