Vacation Dreams...

I am sitting in my office right now, and I am freezing my butt off. It's early June here in Washington State, and we have yet to see a truly season appropriate day. Usually by early June, we're seeing high 70's/low 80's 'round these parts.

But this year? Mmmmm...not so much.

I think today the high was 62, and so help me...it's been raining all week. Good for my flowers, bad for my personality. I am starting to feel like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. With all of the rain, and the kids and I being locked into the house all day....I am about to crawl the walls.

So tonight, while I am supposed to be working, I am daydreaming about the many places I would love to vacation. So many places, so little time...and money. I have strange vacation desires, though. I am not much for tropical areas. After all, I am a chub, and I don't do bathin suits unless I am being offered a cool, tax free million. Mmm, kay?
But I want to go to places where the history is rich, and where I can ultimately learn something while I am there. Can you believe it? Brooke wants to do something with her brain while on vay cay. Go figure.

So, without further delay, here is my list of the top ten places I want to visit someday:

This is, and always will be, my #1 vacation destination. I swear, I was meant to be a hairy lipped greek woman, and not the pudgy, ever-pale Irish/Scottish American that I am. If I went to Greece, I would need to stay for 2 weeks, because I would need to tour all of the ruins, as well as sit around eating olives for a few days.

You know, I've wanted to tour London for as long as I can remember, and strangely enough...it stems from the rhyme/song "London Bridges", isn't that weird? I remember hearing my mother sing it as a kid, and wanting so desperately to go SEE London Bridge. I would love to tour the palace and learn all about the history of the monarchy. Not sure why...I guess that goes back to my perpetual desire to be a princess.

I am fascinated by a city built on water. I mean....wow. Interesting. Though, I would have to do this trip with my Nerd, and leave the kids at home. I would be too scared to let go of my kid's hands all the time.

Again, my whole LIFE I've wanted to go to NYC. I can no longer see Rent on Broadway (boo) but I could still take in a showing of Wicked as well as a number of others. Plus, I could go see the Statue of Liberty and buy one of those nifty foam hats; I could tip the Naked Cowboy; get a Gray's Papaya; eat at WD50; get a frozen hot chocolate at Serindipity; tour Ellis Island.....and hundred of other things. *SIGH* Someday...

I would love love love to go to China. And not just for the food! :) I would love to tour the Great Wall. I mean, you can see it from SPACE. How stinkin' cool is that? I must go. I must see.

Ireland. I'm not sure why I would want to go here, besides being surrounded by misty air and green, green, green. Nirvana, at last.

Bean town! Oh, Boston, how I love thee.....I haven't been in 15 years (when did I get so OLD?) but this city is amazing. Incredible food, amazing people, kick ass accents, RICH with history. I love the fact that I can go from having a drink in the Cheers Bar to seeing Mother Goose's grave within a few steps.

I would only go to Hawaii for my Nerd's sake. The poor guy finances all of our travels, so I may as well throw the poor dude a bone once in a while. I would love to go to Hawaii with him, so long as I wasn't asked to put on a bathing suit. Plus, luau's sound really fun.

Nantucket, Mass is an amazing place to visit! So romantic with its grey and white houses and the cry of gulls and blowing of boat horns in the distance. I loved the time (what little there was) that I spent working on Nantucket Island when I was 20 years old. The naitives are a bit snobby, but the island itself is very rich with history, and lots of haunting old stories of lost sailors and captains. So romantic!

And here we have another tropical destination. My Nerd spent some time in the Dominican Repulbic on a mission years ago, and he has been telling me all about it. I would love to go back, just the two of us.

So the moral of this post is: I need so start selling some major books, so that I can actually take one of these vacations. So, on August 5th, head over to your local bookstore, or hop online, and buy The What If Guy! Sponsor my world tour!

Kidding.

You just need to buy my book because you want to read a good story. Wanna know where The What If Guy is set? Here you go....

Yeah. Not a hopping vay cay destination. However, it is incredibly beautiful there, and it is where I grew up. Read about it in my book.

Brooke Moss.
