Crazy busy days. Launching my company next week. I've done most of the preliminary work. Leaders in my sector are betting I'll leave my current employment within three to six months because of demand. Nice!
I haven't given my current employer the details but have told him I'm going to set boundaries on my time and will be leaving weekends and evenings free to pursue a part-time initiative. Part of the reason I'm going out on my own was over a pay cut which is 1/4 of my total salary. The cut wasn't tied to performance, it's more a reflection of what's happening in our market. My love of all things travel would have to change with that reduction and I'm not willing to give up my sanity. I've worked for several years as a senior manager in a variety of sectors and the time is now to use what I know for myself. The pay cut just kicked my ass into gear. I've had to be upfront enough with my boss to let him know we need to strategize my replacement. We have no one in-house for me to have begun a succession plan with. It's going to be very tough to find someone, but it is what it is.
I have to say I'm a bit overwhelmed...okay a lot overwhelmed. As a CEO in a high risk field I'm already doing more hours than most and beginning a start-up just adds to it. I think I'm crazy some days, but I seem to operate best under pressure. I'm excited about the possibilities!
