Ok, I read this one a while back, but since I am obsessed with looking at pictures of the making of the movie based on this particular book (and the too-young-for-me-hottie that stars in it)...I figured I would encourage you all to read this book: Water For Elephants, by Sara Gruen.
I have to say....this is a pretty graphic book in places. There were times when I was reading it and looked over my shoulder to make sure nobody could see what I was reading because it was naughty. And by naughty, I don't mean "Woo-wee, come here, hubby!" naughty...I mean "Oh! Oh my....I feel sort of icky." naughty. The problem is, it is an extremely good story. So it is hard to put it down, even though you want to scratch out your own eyes for reading something so messed up.
You see, underneath it all, there is a wonderful romantic story. And what makes it even more irresistible is that it is being told by a sweet old man in his 90's that misses his circus life. It makes you sad. And curious. And sad. So you keep reading.
I, for one, am thrilled to see this in movie form. (and no, not just for the eye candy...though that is a plus!) I hope it will be a nice adaptation of a book that I really, really enjoyed. I am so often let down by movies these days. But regardless, if you have the opportunity...go get the book. Run. Don't walk. Read it in a room all alone. You'll thank me.
Brooke Moss.
