Making new friends.

One major thing I am looking forward to when I go to the Emerald City Romance Writers Conference in October is...making some new friends.

Now, don't get me wrong, I've got some good friends. Great friends, actually! But I only have one writer friend. She is fabulous! Notice how I italicized fabulous? Well, she is. But the problem is: She lives in Arizona. And anyone who knows the geography of the continental US knows that Arizona is a long-ase way from Washington. (Plus...it's stinkin' hot there. How in the name of our holy God can someone live in heat that is warm enough to bake a cake?? And yes, I realize that everyone has air conditioning. But what if you want to send the kids outside? Or take a walk? Or...I don't know, drive with the window down?? Explain that to me, and I'll give you a dollar.) But, I digress, what I am getting at is: She is far away. And she writes a different genre than me (YA fantasy....and her Kasivia series kicks AZZ. I'm serious. You heard it here first. Straight from me.) So...what I am getting at is: I need some more writer friends.

That's why I was so psyched to go to the ECRW conference!! It's right here in my home state, and it is specifically for my genre! I hope hope hope that I will meet a few more writers to have in my little writers group with me. Maybe even someone from around here in Spokane, that I can get together with occasionally. Wouldn't that be cool? I just need to broaden my spectrum of writer friends. I have lots of friends who are readers, but none who write! And some of my reader friends aren't necessarily into the genre I write. (Contemporary Romance)

I am really hoping for some new friends to come my way during this conference. I am really stepping out of my comfort zone by going to this thing alone, but I am also really happy to be doing it! It is good to stretch my wings like this. Isn't it? Good grief, I hope it is...
